Icon5 Please help me decide on how to fix this. See Pics!

Hello All!

I really need your input on this one...the question may sound a little dumb but I am over-protective with my watches (as most of you are).

Last week I posted about the issue. A sales rep from one of those "cleaning cloths / cleaning green solutions" Kiosk at the mall damaged part of the bezel of my TT Blue Sub (YES dumb me for letting him "show me" how to clean it).

After A LOT of complaining, the owner appears to be on-board to giving me $1000 to fix the issue (that's what the AD quoted to replace the exterior 18K bezel).

Based on the images below of the damage...If and when I get the $1000 cash, should I:

Option 1- Fix the watch with the A.D.

Option 2- Fix it using an aftermarket 18K bezel (insert stays original) that costs $420.00 and supposedly looks exactly the same....solid 18K gold too.

Option 3- Keep the $1000 and leave watch as is.

The images below are not too great, that is the closest I can get with the Iphone. If you notice there are about 7 teeth of the bezel, from number 40 to 50 that are really rounded up...that's what that cloth did to it...it "melted/polished" the gold part too much.

I'm going to start with, you were really upset at what happened to the watch right?
Then, why even contemplate using an after market option??? Makes no sense and sounds like you just want to pocket some cash and take the cheaper option...
You complained enough to have been offered 1 K to fix it..Then fix it correctly through your AD and get your watch back to original condition with ORIGINAL parts!!

PS: Next time a kiosk in the mall says "show me your Rolex!", keep on walking!

I wouldn't give a mall kiosk guy a G Shock.

Get it back to original condition. Then sell the left over part for whatever you can get for it, and go to a nice steak house, not at the mall. :)

I wish I could get the damaged bezel back...did you know that Rolex demands that I send them back my damaged bezel back? That they only "replace it". I found that ridiculous by the way, seeing that I am paying $1000 for the new one and that the gold on the damaged piece itself is worth well over $300.00...

I was thinking about opening another thread about that same issue.

Rolex will indeed replace and keep the original part...
However, this is not costing you a cent and should not factor in the decision.

Chaulk it up to a lesson learned~

I'm not really quite sure what I'm looking for in the pictures but if it bothers you that much then I would get it replaced. If you haven't already, I would get some sort of written statement with a signature that they agreed to pay you $1k. Good luck!

Trust I (and my wife) already beat my head with a stick a couple of times for handing of a $7K watch to that "dude".

Ever since it happened last week, I do nothing but stare at those freaking overly buffed teeth every time I wear this watch.

My wife and friends swear that "you can't see it"...but I just can't stand it.

Why would you hand your precious Sub to a complete stranger? One that you should have known has absolutely no clue .... Get it fixed properly man. An aftermarket bezel is a big NO in my book.

EDIT: Sorry, I don't mean to sound judgmental ... as they said below .. take it as a learning experience.

Makes sense to have Rolex replace it. Then that blue beauty will be back to it's original grandeur. Keep us posted!

I would fix it right (new OEM bezel) in a heartbeat with the $1k and sell the messed up bezel and pocket that cash.

I think this is the route- with the exception of giving it to the dude that paid $1k for it.

Not necessary. Send it to Bob Ridley or Vanessa who will, I believe return the original bezel. I believe both have parts accounts with Rolex.

Just send it in and get the bezel replaced. End of story and lesson learned. No need to try and profit from this.

I agree... Forget the aftermarket parts and forget the profit... get your watch back to original pre kiosk condition and move one... Done deal enough said.
