Why 216570 and not 116570?

Why is the new Explorer II not called 116570?

Well new case yes but hardly a new movement its just mainly 3185 based, with a bit of 3186 then add the inhouse shock system and now call it a 3187.

The recent Old Explorer II also received a new movement (3186) and the reference number did not change.

Because it prepares the ground for 216610, the new Sub 42mm with the new Explorer case? (And the same for the GMT...)

Who knows...

Because Rolex decided to use 216570 and not 116570.

The DJ II is still a 1, although they increased the case size.

I know, that's why I say it just appears as Rolex decided to go a different route. Who knows what the reason is, except they decided to do this one differently.

i believe that the combination of the new case size and new movement warrants the "2" model number designation

The DJ II is the same movement as the DJ? i don't know much about movements, but I would have thought that if the case is of a different size, it has to be another movement?

We call it DJ II, but on the dial it's still DateJust, not II.

Soon or later DJ 41mm will stay the only DJ in catalog, so it makes sense to keep the same number than DJ 36mm (DJ II is 1163xx, DJ 36 is 1161xx or 1162xx).

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with LOL-X

BTW: If they have a new SS Daytona, it's probably going to be called a 216520!
