Rolex pulls AD status

I just spoke with an AD I was told that Rolex pulled AD status from 150 stores last week. Any idea what stores maybe aside from Jared.

I really need a fire sale GMT II :D

I think this has been coming. Like others, a more boutique business model may be adopted.

My guess is the majority of the 150 is Jared as they are a nationwide chain

My AD is a little worried... Chain Store... Located in a Mall..
He also said that he has not had any new shipments in a while and what usually happens is they hold out right before a price increase... Maybe they are holding out in anticipation of pulling their AD status...

I believe Rolex is trying to open up their own stores now. This will definitely take away the "hush hush" discounts that customers have been getting.

I don't like it.

What happens to the warranty of these watches? Especially if bought after AD status is pulled?

And, any speculation about how this will effect the Grey's?

Higher prices on the gray market

Warranty is with Rolex.I don't think it matters if the AD is Persona Non Grata.....

The warranty is with Rolex, not the store; if something goes wrong in the first two years, to RSC it goes

VERY interesting. I went to a nice jeweler, an AD.....offered discount on a watch I was thinking about, but didn't pull the trigger----they didn't have a good stock.

Fast forward a couple of weeks....getting hard to find this model. Went to a AD with a good stock----paid MSRP, and had the AD experience.....poorer, but happy.

So in my estimation....if the AD doesn't have a decent stock...well they may be history......

Jared's is either 1. having cash flow issues and/or 2. is no longer upholding the standards set forth by Rolex to their end-channel retailers (e.g., discounting, not moving enough inventory to satisfy commitments, poor customer service and product knowledge due to sub-standard training internally, ect.), which reflects poorly on the Rolex experience by consumers.

This will, without a doubt, affect the grey market in some ways. If Jared's was suspected as being a grey market source all Rolex had to do was buy a few LNIB watches off of websites like this and eBay to trace activity back to the entity habitually selling into the reseller channels, unknowingly or otherwise. We can bet that if the latter was the reason Jared's lost their dealership chain-wide, they were given many warnings to button up but the grey market continued to flourish off of them.

At the least, this is a shot across the bow of every Rolex AD out there that Rolex is always watching whether it be for grey market activity, poor service and knowledge, or inability to stay current with payables. Bottom line: Get the deals while you can.... and consider opening a jewelry store in a town where Jared's was the Rolex AD if you're looking for a new business opportunity :-0
