Warranty Card

Question, Guy's & Gal's. The warranty card on my new Rolex was not filled out by the Jeweler, save a stamp showing Jeweler's name. The back of the paperwork holder say's dealer must fill in the name of purchaser, date ect. Is this a problem? Your thoughts please.

Yes, it is a problem, particularly so in the US. Go back to your AD, and get them to sort it out

Hi,

i have the same :(, on back of the warrant card i do have:

1. name od retailer (printed by computer)
2. stamp of retailer
3. stamp with date

but i also have a bill with my name on.

The problem is - i did buy my sub in Dubai, i live in Europe... whats now?

Take it back to the jeweler and have them fill it out completely. There shouldn't be any problem doing that.

I would disagree that this is a problem.... Leave it blank IMHO, often times you will see watch for sale with "open" card/papers that is pre owned. Yes the AD should have filled it out but you can write your name in anytime and if you sell it the new buyer may kike it blank too... Just my .02

As long as the warranty card is stamped with the jeweler's name you are fine. You can leave your information blank and fill it out when and if you need warranty work. The jeweler does not send any information to Rolex concerning who bought a particular watch.

X2, leave it alone for now. There is no need to go back to the jeweler, you can fill in your name and the date of purchase anytime, but I would leave it blank.

The big deal is would be if there was no AD stamp on the card. Rolex will not warranty any watch without that info.

These are confusing answers. Doesn't the AD register the watch with serial # and name of owner with Rolex USA? I thought that this was the case.

Please explain why? I have seen the "open card" mentioned and always wondered what that does for you if you are the buyer. Does it still make a difference if the watch would be out or warranty? Thanks

It's just about the buyer being able to put HIS name on the card instead of having to stomach somebody else's staring back at him, reminding him he is not the first owner!

It was said before: no problem at all. If anything it 'extends' the warranty as you can enter a date later in time taking the warranty 2 years from that date onwards. (the date has to be realistic though)

In addition it will make the watch more attractive for resale if you were ever to think of that as the new owner can have their name on the papers...

OP said that ONLY the dealer stamp is on the card...the DATE and NAME are unfilled.

What that means is....one can 'start' their 2 year warranty period when they choose to, AND it will be in their name. On a 8K avg Rolex, I'd opine that many will pay $400 for the luxury. YMMV.

Sorry newbie here, what would I get with the Brand New Rolex's sold here on the forum by the highly reputable sales people? I guess they are not ADs however do they have AD stamps and "open cards"?

My experience is a card completely filled in by the AD, named and dated. YMMV. I would contact them and ask, most are friendly....only one is mean (j/K)

Just recently I spoke to Rolex and what they told me is a little different. The AD's are being asked to send a copy of the filled warranty card along with the sales receipt to Rolex now. So adding a date that is not the date of sale may be a problem. Also, she said many AD's and watchmakers send in watches for their customers. She told me they will repair the watch under warranty as long as the date is within range. Further, as long as the warranty card copy sent in matches their copy then all is good. Got that feedback from both Dallas and NYC service centers. In the past I've had to send in
Rolexes that had my name on the card for warranty service after I sold the watch to a third party. The last couple that were sent in by people I've traded with had no problem
since my name was on the warranty card and on Rolex's copy. So it seems like no matter who sends it in they will honor the warranty as long as the paperwork matches.

At least that seems to be todays rule. Tomorrow may be a different story. My guess is that blank warranty cards (just the dealer stamp) may not be so advantageous on the current release watches, at least while the warranty is intact. Better off having the real buyers name/date on the card. In the worst case condition he could send it in for warranty service if necessary. Where the value comes into play is on a collectable or older Rolex. Once out of warranty resale maybe a little higher.....why? First, you can put your name on it.......or you can leave it open for a future buyer. On the other hand
the name and date establishes providence for the watch and helps determine authenticity..........I personally would rather have any Rolex I buy named and dated.

Agreed. Plus should someone ever burglarize the owners home and steal both watch and blanc card the owner will have a hard time proving that the watch is his and not whomever bought it on the black market. Just my

When I bought my 16610LV in sept. my AD also made a photo copy of the warranty card and sales receipt. He stated that I didn't have to fill it out if I didn't want to but if I wanted the warranty, it(copy) had to sent to Rolex
