Finally the Daytona......

......it's four hours old, to say it's a smudge magnet is an under statement, the dial looks cluttered, real shiney, perhaps too blingy for me, I'll have to get use to unscrewing the pushers, and so far much harder to read than my other two watches.

Having said all that, it all works, I LOVE my Daytona! Please excuse my quick and crappy pictures.

This actually sounds how you would describe a watch that you DON'T want to buy...

Exactly what I was thinking when I read the post. I have a feeling this one will be on the FS forum soon.

Nice, congrats. I keep my pushers screwed in but you know you don't have to. You just can't push them in under water.

Congrats, very nice!

It does sound like a tinge of buyer's remorse, but give it a few days and you'll come around. You can always have your jeweler brush the center links which helps cut down on the smudge/bling factor.

Thank you all for your interest and replies. My hint of buyers remorse is all tongue in cheek in trying to express the irony of the Daytona.

Never liked the PLC or too much writing on dials, hence the 14060. The Daytona bezel is so shiny it reflects light making it a challenge to read, as do the silver sub dials, and chrono second hand.

Screwing the pushers out and back in is the same sort of endearing ritual as winding the manual wind Speedmaster, and puts the same smile on my face.

Inspite of these undeniable issues I absolutely love the Daytona. All these things come together so perfectly, it just works. This is a KEEPER !

When I fist purchased my Speedmaster Pro. and compared it to my then Submarimer 5513 it also seemed to have readability issues, but I quickly became accustomed to it.

Admittedly the Daytona may take a bit longer to comfortablely read, but it will not see the FS forum any time soon, and I have no desire to brush/mod anything
allthough those are nice options to have.

Regards, Mark.

Congratulations on your Daytona. I hope that it brings you years of pleasure. How would you compare it to your Speedmaster? The Speedmaster is a cool watch too...

I'm a new black dial owner too, and I switched from a sub LV (black dial), which may just be one of the easiest watches to "read," given the maxi-dial. Regardless, the Daytona is just special compared to it. For some unexplainable reason, none of the little hindrances matter - its how it all comes together!

Just curious, but what is it that you like about it? too blingy, too shiny, and hard to read is not exactly a ringing endorsement. I am curious about that dial.

Congratulations, I personally think it fits you very well!

Thank you for the honest feedback about it, you have to assume the bad things about a watch to fully enjoy it, otherwise you just try to convince yourself it's perfect and you end up not enjoying it to the fullest!

Your comments are exactly why I ended up selling both my white and black Daytona years ago. While the white was easier to read I thought both were too blingy. It was my grail watch for years, then I had two, now I have none.

Enjoy and congrats. It is a great piece of modern engineering and a great watch. it just wasn't meant to be for me...
