Transmission Advice

Hey car experts. I am driving a 2006 Ford Fusion, and I am noticing that when I go up hills, the rpms go up and its harder for my car than it used to be. How do I know whether its serious or not? As far as poor transmission performance - what am I looking for?

Well it's hard to tell if we don't know a couple of things.
Stick or Auto? All the time, or only after car has warmed up?

You need to give us a lot more specific info and even then there isn't any way any of us could be for sure.

I race cars and thought my Jeep's throttle body or PCM was screwed up. Turns out it was the map sensor.

If it is your tranny go trade the thing some where!!!!

If it's an automatic, the transmission may be slipping. If you're lucky, it just needs fluid. If it's a stick shift, the clutch may be slipping. You really should have a professional look at it in either case.

Good luck.

Is a MAP sensor for the GPS to help finding the finish line in a race?

Well since MAP stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure I can't imagine how that would affect the GPS and I can surely find my way to the end of the track without the help of a GPS

Usually when a MAP goes bad, you get a CEL and a code for it?

Hi Brad,

If it's a auto then the rpm's will go up slightly when you hit a hill - Have you put on weight lately?
If it's a manual then the clutch is slipping if the revs go up and speed doesn't.

Well on an automatic, most common problem is low ATF.
On a stick, it is a worn clutch disc or puck adjustment.

It's actually contaminated ATF and clogged filter.

Here in the US, statistically, low ATF tops the list of transmission problems. Causes are driver indifference and leaks.

Sounds stupid but most people have been putting off service calls for too long. and we are up to 60% of new drivers who can't identify the 2 dipsticks they should personally check on a monthly basis.

It's virtually impossible to diagnose a vehicle online. Take it in and have them run the diagnostics and check oasis.

It's an automatic - definitely going to get the ATF flushed. Thanks for your advice! BTW - I could never drive a manual, I don't know how people do it.
