Hi. Happy New Year to everyone reading this.
As you are probably aware I've been doing a series of Photo shoots of my Omega Watch Collection. I have had a few members PM about how do I do them, Well to assist me in answering I thought "a photo says a 1000 words".
Basically it is a mixture of a Light tent, defused flash in Light box, Daylight balanced studio lighting and a reflector and reflecting board and of course the macro lens and Camera + Tripod......etc. The set up takes over the spare bedroom for a week but the wife is very understanding and deserves a medal. Thanks again for all the encouraging comments. I have enjoyed reading them alot. I will be posting the last two sets of pics very soon. The 38mm Constellation and an Omega family photo to finish with. Have a great day

Hello Dan. No I am a amateur Photographer. Its just my (2nd) Hobby now I am into to watch collecting....which is now 1st. Alan

Hi Mike. I saw some of your work (recognized your back ground tiles.) The light tent works well in eliminating the harse reflections the Dial and front crystal picks up, even then though its no work in the park is it ! Post some more of you work Mike, I'd love to see it. Alan

Hello! This is a most interesting and informative thread. Delighted to read and view!

My "photo studio" at home, follows more or less the idea of those shown here, but it is completely home made with some rather amateurish wood frames I made, covered with white plans paper, to difuse light.

In my case, I use three 500 watts white light tungsten bulbs bought at a photography shop. One on each side, and one on the upper side of my "light box".

I wonder which are the respective light sources used by the set ups shown by Dram99, SynMike and Jocke.

Will appreciate your comments about lightning used!

Hi Abel.
I use a mix of daylight bulb lighting 300watt (on the left of my photo) and defused flash in a light box (on the right of my photo) and just move them around untill I get shadowless images with no "burnt out" (High-lites that are too bright ) out areas either. I find it great fun and and very rewarding as it can be tricky to get the Perfect picture. I dont think I've acheived this yet, but I will keep trying

Lightning is the "secret" of fine photography, and specially difficult with shining objects like watches are. Your tip is very interesting and important piece of info.

Surely it is very fun to photograph our collections, and yours are great pictures indeed.

Hi Ben. Thanks for your compliments. As for making yourself a light box (tent) they are so cheap to buy. I think mine was £20 or so off of ebay. When not in use the fold to the size of a dinner plate and about 2" deep and comes in a nylon carry so it s very easliy stored and used and also comes with about 5 coloured velvet backgrounds. Just add lights and you are in business.
