MB bottle fill and little ink window indicator:
Is this little window indicator supposed to get full with ink upon bottle filling? I never seem to be able to get any ink into it, yet the pen writes fine. IF it doesn't get ink in it, what is it for?

That's the ink window Chris and of course if you fill the pen up with ink it will show how much ink is left in the pen.
After a full fillup the ink should be all the way up covering all the ink window (pen vertical nib pointing bottom). If there is no ink there it means either 1. you have fill up air (you have to submerge the nib+feed up to the section ring into ink) or 2. the piston has gap - which means the pen needs service as it's not drawing up ink. The first case happens often when your bottle of ink is half full or even 2/3 full. Usually I tilt the bottle on the far side to get by, or you have to decanter the ink to another ink well for fillup. |

Got it! I was previously only able to unscrew the pistno about 1 turn and felt resistance so I had been stopping. This time, I forced it a little and discovered it actually unscrews quite aways...enough to fill it this time!
Thanks

It's the Black & White LeGrande fp that matches my money clip from MB
![]() It's writes very well, I chose the fine nib. Nice modern look to a classic and timeless pen. I just didn't realize how far they unscrew. The little window is all full of ink now ![]()

Chris, that's an excellent idea(I use two everyday)...pick up another fountain pen. While at the boutique check out the Bordeaux and the new brown ink!!!

On that note, I must state that I have always found the folks at the MB boutique @ Copley to be top notch and well educated about their product. I know I can go elsewhere and get a bit better price, but I am willing to pay the little extra @ Copley because of their excellence.

In my MB I use Aurora's "Blue" exclusively, It's just a really deep colored royal blue....I bought a ton of ink trying to find my favorites (hence the grey), but I tend to use Noodlers Heart of Darkness and Blue-Black in my others. I throw some Pelikan Violet or Blue-Black in every so often too, but they tend to feather on cheap office paper.

It's a REALLY dark black. I'm a big fan for everyday note taking....I hate when black inks wash out.
If you use that much Oyster Grey, you're welcome to mine. I've only filled maybe 2 or 3 converters worth out of the bottle, just PM me your info.
