This is hardly a choice.........in fact, a true no-brainer. The 3717 is a true classic when it comes to Chronos. I love my Planet Ocean and many other Omegas but I've owned a 3717 and its one of the best...simply a fabulous watch.

Enjoy no matter which you choose

Just so I can know, why is the IWC unanimously preffered over the Omega in this Chrono instance?

I think maybe because the SMP Chrono is not a favorite watch for many people. In general chronograph dive watches aren't as popular as chronographs that build the design around the Chrono functions first. If this were a comparison between the IWC 3717-01 and the Omega 3570.50 I think it would have been a much closer battle.

I prefer the 3717 over that SMPC. IWC bracelet is really top notch, I prefer the thick pilot hand/dial, and the wrist presence is really nice.

IWC and I'm an Omega fan. Reason I pick the IWC is because of the cleaner and sharper design.

Funny b/c I think that Omegas look much better than IWCs in almost every instance when comparing similar type watches. This particular case is the exception.

I've already made that choice and I would do the same if I had to do it again.

IWC Pilot Chronograph IW371713

However when it comes to chronographs and Omega there is one I definitely would get.

Thank you, most gold watches on a strap are a bit more low key.

We'd love to hear which chronos are better looking than the classic 3717 that are in and around the same price range??? I've owned a 3717 and a Daytona and I preferred the 3717 over the Daytona all day, everyday. Shocking, I know.........even I couldn't believe it!!!!

A Tag and a Breitling over an IWC.....ouch!!!! Well, I guess that's what makes the world go around. The Zenith is a beauty but in a different price class.....still wouldn't choose it over the IWC.

As far as the new, Omega PO Chrono, my friend just picked one up......stunning but very, very thick......almost too thick. Hard for me to compare a diver chrono (really no need for one) to a pilot's watch.

Don't get me wrong I do love IWC also, just not that model. I love the Portuguese 7 day power reserve or the big ingenier. One day

IWC is a real classic..a true flieger..but if it were for me to purchase, I would go against the popular choice and opt for the Omega simply because when I want a sporty watch, I want it to be completely sporty, and the SMP has a lot of presence and true looks in real life...the IWC is much more subdued and elegant, which I think is not the main criteria for comparison here...I would go for the IWC (on black strap) if I wanted just one watch for all occassions, but the SMP for a sporty watch in a broader collection.

I picked my chopard over both those watches, when deciding to buy. I would recommend that you take a look into it. However, I would pick the IWC if I didnt have the option of buying the chopard.

I would buy neither of them if i was buying a chrono.as i do not like any of the sub dials in that formation using one at the 12 position. Would find one like the Daytona layout.

Both are pretty solid. But Speedmaster Pro is a superior choice IMO.

The IWC.
I never liked a so called dive watch with a chronograph. What's the point?

Can you elaborate why diver watches should not have a chronograph?

I had a 3717 and loved it, get one. The only reason I sold mine was because I wanted the bracelet and I purchased one on a strap. IWC bracelets are so much money to just go buy one so I sold the watch. I would love to own another on a bracelet this time, it is one amazing watch.
