Submariner for the American Navy
Anybody ever came across this beaut?!
In my opinion this is one of the nicest subs ever, supposedly only 80 'something' were made. "U.S. Marine Prototype" Rolex, Oyster Perpetual Date, U.S. Marine, Superlative Chronometer, Officially Certified, Ref. 1690, movement No. 024510. Prototype made in few examples in 1982 for the US. Marines, production was never undertaken. Exceptionally rare and very fine, tonneau-shaped, asymmetrical, center-seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel military wristwatch with U.S. Marine logo in red and a stainless steel Oyster expansion bracelet. |

That's pretty cool - but it looks like it was made for the Marines not the Navy!

If I remember correctly this came up on Timezone a while back. Supposedly this was a "prototype" made by a custom shop in the far east to show what they could do.
Interesting that they would use a type of expansion bracelet on an 80s watch as Rolex ceased using the 7206 expansion bracelet in the mid 60s due to excessive wear problems.

Sorry, but I don't like it at all:
TOO prominent end links in comparison to the rather slim case Don't like the crown at 4 Bezel looks flimsy But still interesting, though.
