Oyster Perpetual Date vs. DJ
Hello TRF Members,
Besides the size, what is the difference between an Oyster Perpetual Date and a Date Just? Thanks. |

If I recollect correctly, at the beginning Date models were limited to certain styles i.e. different combination of bezels and dials that you could get from Rolex AD. With the Datejust it cover the styles of the Date model as well as additional options such as the fluted bezel, and more dial combinations.
Other than that as you state 34mm vs 36mm, both have cyclops both can be purchase as non-quick and quickset feature. So basically more style variations. |

Size is the biggest difference.

Today it's size. The Date is 34mm and the DJ is 36. Either one would be fine. SS or TT DateJust is classic but I'd probably go for the Date. Stand out a little

Besides size; the date does not change instantaneously on the date.

Its exactly the same cal 3135 that's in most of the Rolex line up with a date, the only difference between the Date and DJ, is case size and more dial/bracelet and choice of metal/diamond options on the DJ.

This was true decades ago, but not anymore. As padi56 has stated, these references now use the same caliber movement. I believe that The Date model is no longer available with fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet, or in 2 tone. These feature and the 2mm size difference are what now separates the Datejust from the Date.
