The oldest topic ever.. GMT vs Sub

Well I've been having a long debate today with some colleagues as to which of the current ceramics is best looking/bang for buck/practical.

I'm obviously biased as I picked my GMTiic over the Subc as for me it's the nicest looking SS Rolex available, however I have never needed to use the dual timezone feature but nor would I need to be able to submerse my watch heavily if I had a sub.

Interestingly one colleague with a 16610 prefers the ceramic GMT if he were to purchase a newer model.

What do you guys think? Would be great to hear from people that own both as they won't be forced to either side as easily!

Cheers
Ryan

All personal preference. GMTc is perfect for me, but I can understand why the SubC would be perfect for someone else.

I have both, but the score is 3 to 1 in favor of the Submariner...

I just LOVE diver's watches:)

My favorite watch. A beauty! It's been on my wrist since last June and it gets better every day! I was set on the Explorer 42 for my next whenever that happens, but now it is all GMT.

Same here, both is the way to go, however, I favor the GMT range simply for the extra complication!

To me, it should be more about functionality than looks, the sub and GMT are very differant watches IMHO.........

How cute, you guys look like those young twins we always dress up the same way a family reunions!

I'd go with the GMT as well, the second time zone may be unnecessary (for now at least) but I find it more useful than a divers' watch.

It is still my absolute favorite after 9 month of ownership. You cannot go wrong with the HULK.

I think the GMT's bezel looks too cluttered. It's all Sub for me.

i chose the sub because it looked to more under the radar and timeless than the gmt with the big numbers on the bezel. i prefered the clasp and the fact that it has no pcl.
on the other hand i love the gmt's green hand and its function.
i guess there is no good or bad choice between thes two iconsit is purely a question of taste.
i'd be happy to own both especially in the yg and wg versions as above.

i don't own either, so, take this for what it's worth, but, for me, when talking about pre-ceramics, i prefer the GMT (coke/pepsi/black + oyster/jubilee...so many options) over the sub date, but, for the ceramics, it's the sub date all the way (not a fan of the GMTIIc's bezel or PCLs).....especially the hulk.

good that there are so many great options.

It sounds to me like the only logical solution is to own BOTH.

For someone who does not travel often I say go with the Sub. The 60 min bezel will get more use than the GMT's 24hr.
However I feel if one travels a couple times or more a year, especially internationally, then the GMT wins. Jumping hour hand for quick time change combined with the GMT function makes it a great tool for traveling.

It seems that for those who love both watches, they end up owning both. Just pick which you want first!

I prefer the GMTIIC over the SubC. I like the PCLs and the green hour hand.

Sub, Sub, Sub...

The perfect watch. Of course, i am biased!!

Still, given the opportunity to do it all over again, I would pick the Sub for two reasons: GMT Bezel is too busy and i dislike the green hour hand

I like both. Originally wanted a GMT love the complication and i do travel frequently overseas. It's definitely the dressier watch with the PCL's but i ended up with the sub c just because i had a chance to get it when they came out at a discount and value wise it made the most sense to me. However i do still want a gmt in full gold someday.
