problem with rolex service centre in uk.... gold tarnished help

I have a rolex president day date,,,

I fell about a year ago and the watch went to rolex for repair.. £3500 worth of repair... it was in and out for the last year as they always seemed to sort something unecessary and the original damage still there..

I got the watch back about 4 months ago and on the flush fit they replaced there WAS A GREEN TINGE! contacted rolex whom advised to use toothbrush and fairy liquid.... never worked so went back again.

The watch came back and seemed ok, 2 weeks ago went into the box and the flush fit dront and rear is green tinged and off colour.

Rolex have had it for a wee k now there explanation""""" flush fits are kept in cold storage and depending on length of time can tarnish, we will now refurbish the full bracelet in a water chamber using electrolisi and this wont happen again !!!"""

I DONT BELIEVE THEM IS THIS COCK AND BULL STORY? NEVER HEARD OF A NEW PIECE OF GOLD TARNISHING ... HELP?

Welcome to TRF!

Gold CAN tarnish! So don't worry.

There was a thread about this "tarnishing issue" some days ago.

I will try finding it for you.

what frustrates me is that when i got the watch back it was a new flush fit that went discoloured they got it back and refurbished the bracelet now they are doing the exact same thing again.

I have requested something in writing from them i also want some sort of warranty...

would it not have been easier to replace the flush fit rather than refurbish twice in 3 months

Yeah I think it would be easier to replace the flush fit.

It is only ONE of the flushfits that tarnishes?

And at what position is it? At 6 or 12 o'clock?

Do you often hold your watch with your thumb on the 6 o'clock flushfit? Finger prints/perspiration might be the cause of tarnishing.

MATE the watch has never been worn since its return and its already had a bracelet refurb in last 4 months for same problem.

heres my letter to them

I REFER TO THE ON GOING SAGA WITH MY £11000 WATCH WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN
OUT OF YOUR SERVICE CENTRE DUE TO POOR WORKMANSHIP OR OVERSIGHTS ON
YOUR REPAIRS DEPARTMENT.

I SPOKE WITH TREVOR PILKINGTON YESTERDAY WHOM ADVISED THAT THE 6 “O”
CLOCK FLUSH FIT WAS A DIFFERENT COLOUR/TARNISHED ETC DUE TO COLD STORAGE
AND THE WAY THEY ARE KEPT.

1 (1) THIS FLUSH FIT WAS NEW AND REPLACED BY YOURSELVES
2
3 (2) NEW FLUSH FIT WAS DISCOLOURED/TARNISHED WHEN RETURNED ORIGINALLY
4 & SENT BACK AND A TOTAL BRACELET REFURBISHMENT WAS CARRIED OUT IN
5 APRIL 2007
6
7 THE EXACT SAME PART OF THE WATCH IS TARNISHED AND DISCOLOURED AGAIN AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD THEY ARE DOING A FULL BRACELET REFURBISHMENT AGAIN !!!THE WATCH HAS NEVER BEEN WORN SINCE IT WAS REFURBISHED THE LAST TIME SO
8 HOW IS DOING THIS FOR A 2ND TIME GOING TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM??????

WOULD IT NOT BE EASIER TO REPLACE THE FLUSH FIT? IT SEEMS TO ME AND ANYONE I ASK(PROFESSIONALS IN THE INDUSTRY) THAT THE GOLD IS INFERIOR.???

I HAVE BEEN ASSURED BY TREVOR THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN HOWEVER
ITS ALREADY HAPPENED BEFORE AND YOU STILL HAVE SAME PART ON THE WATCH AND MERELY CARRYING OUT THE SAME REFURBISHMENT AGAIN((((( DOUBLE THE WORK)))
SO I CANNOT SEE WHY IT WILL BE SORTED THIS TIME.

I WANT A LETTER OF EXPLANATION SENT TO MY HOME ADDRESS, TO DATE NO ONE
HAS HAD THE COURTESY TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR REPLY TO MY LETTERS.
WITH THIS LETTER OF EXPLANATION I WANT A LETTER OR SOMETHING (GUARANTEE) THAT IF THIS HAPPENS EVER AGAIN WHERE I STAND!!!! & AN UP TO DATE SERVICE
WARRANTY CARD WHICH SHOULD BE VALID TILL 2009 PLUS.

I AWAIT YOUR REPLY WITH CURIOUSITY AND ANTICIPATION!!!.

Wow £3,500 worth of repairs, the watch should be as new.

I mean you can get a 3 year old president for just over £5,000 so you would expect the service to be extraordinary.
