Sapphire crystal "up grade" on DateJust??
Have seen this in various adds on DateJusts and was wondering does this mean the crystals have been replaced from plastic to sapphire or is there a different reason for this "up grade" statement?Clark.

Plexi is much better: clearer, no finger marks. Sapphire would be a downgrade. I love the plexi on my DJ and hate the sapphire that I spend my time cleaning on my Explorer II.

Not a good idea. The bezel is friction fitted over the dial on the acrylic models. The sapphire version uses a gasket to wrap around the crystal to make it water tight.

I'm biased...
Plexi is awesome! Upgrade implies an improvement. I personally think acrylic crystals are superior aesthetically!

I prefer sapphire but have several plastic-crystal Rolex. I also have a DJ that was "upgraded" to sapphire. I advise against changing from acrylic to sapphire. The older acrylic Rolex were built for the plastic crystal and are not designed to take the sapphire. You potentially put the watertightness at risk and definitely will have a service problem at RSC.
If you have acrylic crystals, be happy with them-- they are excellent at doing the job. |

A friend of mine who owns a couple of watch shops told me he wouldn't do it for me. He said there was a chance the new saphire crystal would not seal like the factory seal.
