Holy Grail of Submariner?

What would you guys consider as the holy grail of Submariner?

Would it be 1680 Comex, Comex Sea Dwellers, Milsub??

Considering that NOS/Mint condition exists (what really prevents me from getting interested in Vintage is that I might end up with really rusted watch after paying a lump of money... which may be the whole point of vintage but not exactly my cup of tea)

every one has a personal preference ...there is no definitive answer

comex -i wouldd take a 5514 comex sub over a 1680 all day long ..the 1680 is rare, but with no hev and a pedigree that mostly relates to sales rep gifts gimme a good 5514 or 1665 all day long....

if you wanna go marie celeste level ...try a SA milsub ...or UK milseadweller....fabled but almost unseen .... if not a perfect 5517 ticks the box

what about a omani sub ..3-4 known :) or a omani 1665..... a war trophy !!

then theres big crown ...some will shoot you for not including the 6200 in the list (in all its guises phillip :) )the 5510 with 3-6-9 dial , for that matter the 6538 with 3 6 9.....or the A6538 the missing link between coin edged bezels and the modern look ......


or how about a humble 5513 ...but with blue prototype dial .....

Oh well, gives me more of an excuse to spend more time researching some of these great watches you've mentioned.

When Jed and Philipp start getting excited, you know we're talking about the absolute holy grails of the Rolex watch world........

I met Jed in London earlier this year for a quick coffee and he showed me a COMEX, a Milsub, a PN Exotic Dial Daytona, a 3-6-9 Sub plus a rare Milgaus that he just happened to have nonchalantly strewn about his person.........

It was quite an amazing experience to get the chance to handle such "glory" pieces and I must thank you again Jed for this wonderful opportunity.... greatly appreciated

It would definitely be worth it Dan ..... Even with Burlington Arcade on my doorstep, it was nothing to seeing these particular pieces and listening to Jed's encyclopaedic knowledge, travels and escapades.... The best visit to a coffee shop I've ever had

I agree Steven, seeing the watch in person is fantastic. However having someone there who is knowledgeable and able to share that knowledge and passion with you is by far a much better experience.
