1972 Vintage
As I seem to have worked my way through most of the modern Rolex Sports range, ss only, my girlfriend has come up with an idea!
It's my birthday in a couple of weeks & she wants to buy me a watch for my collection. The idea she has is to buy me one from the year I was born, 1972. She is leaving the choice & finding one upto me, all she wants to do is pay for it! I would like to find a GMT in as good an origional condition as possible, not one that has been refurbished with the wrong parts etc. Any sugestions where I could find one, advice or dealers to contact will be of great use to me as I don't have much experience of vintage watches. And yes, when I get one, you can have as many photos of it as you wish Dan |

That is a GREAT project, I have done it twice (Day Date), it took me MONTHS to find the right timepieces but it was worth it! As where to go, you buy the dealer; I can share my contact info if you wish via PM.
Good luck! |

Thanks for the replies.
I'm not expecting to find one that quick but when I do it's got to be the right one. Paulie - Last one of us to get one owes the other a drink! Dan |

I love the idea of having a watch from the same year as your birth. Since I was born in 1940, I guess I'm going to be looking for a regular bubbleback. Torneau has a lovely one, but they want $12,500 for it. I think that's a little pricey.
I'd appreciate any leads anyone has on a nice bubble back from 1940. |

Hello Dan
I have found the perfect GMT 1972/73, box & papers. It looks in really good condition. I will send a PM with details. I actually thought of it myself. I don't know anything regarding the seller, but I'm sure you can get some feedback on him. John. |

Hope all goes well. The price is a bit high (you should be able to negotiate I'm sure), but to get one from a specific year, B&P's as well as original purchase receipt, well I'd pay a bit more too. Just see it as paying too soon, rather than too much. Keep us posted Quote:

The 1675 GMT is a great watch. Stainless, TT or all gold, you definitely won't be sorry. Mine is from the time of my birth as well (1971) and was purchased by my grandfather and worn everyday until 2005 at which point it was passed on to me.
I had it completely restored by the Bev. Hills RSC so that I had a fully functional watch with fully functional lume. |
