Should I trade a GMT for an EXP polar

In effort to keep my watch collection interesting, and keep my small collection moving I am considering the following, am I crazy...?:

Trade my late 1990's Rolex GMT 16710 w/fat font bezel insert for a late 1990's EXPII 16570 Polar, just trading the watch, no boxes, papers. The EXP has a documented service from may 2012. The seller would give me 200 dollars cash...

well, the white dial would make a nice contrast with your sub, but, do you have the other bezel inserts? i'd consider doing some GMT bezel mixing and matching before moving that piece. maybe even pick up a jubilee or super jubilee?

Personally I'd keep the GMT. It's a beautiful watch. I have a 42mm white dial explorer and will never part with it so I'm partial to explorers but the 16570's are a little to small fort taste. In the end you need to do what makes you happy.

Changing the bezel is a quick way for a new look on the GMT. But in reality, only you can answer the question.

Thanks for the answers...

Upon further recollection, my current collection is certainly fine for now. This realization came to me today while I was asking an AD to lower their price on their pristine 1680, the salesman commented on my great collection.

I might meet up with Jacek over the weekend, then, anything goes in terms of trades..., Here are some late afternoon photo's that further explain why I need to be happy with what I have today...

I would keep the GMT. Buy bezels or NATOs for it. Or go all out like Cru suggests.

I'd call Jocke...
Have you seen his idea for keeping your GMT and having an Explorer II, too?
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=236497

Puts a whole new twist on "flipping"...

You do have all black-dial Rollies. I have a polar E2 & think it's great. Very crisp. As for the trade, I'm not sure the relative value of the 2 watches. List the GMT separately here & get your E2 here too (ie on the sales forum)

Keep the gmt, get a Pepsi bezel and save for a pre loved classic Explorer II. There are plenty around at very decent prices. See some of those on the TRF for sale boards and you'll get a good idea of what I'm talking about.

If you are an enthusiast, then swapping them, trading them, and picking up new pieces is just part of the affliction..

I like the Explorer II.. It's rugged and a do-anything watch..

Even though I started with GMT's and have not been without one for decades, I could be very tempted by this trade........

Good points, and remember, I am the guy who cleared out his entire watch collection last year in order to start anew with Rolex. The Polar is perfect for beach activity, sand won't get stuck in the bezel ring, and there is no black bezel to fade...
The thing that got me started on the EXPII Polar is that I picked up a rivet bracelet for the Tudor Sub, so I now have three Stainless Steel watches with black rotating bezels....

Love both watches, but I would never part with my gmtII. I love that watch! Switch your insert to a pepsi or coke, maybe swap your bracelet to a jubilee..

Dan P should post up that picture of the many choices you have with the GMTII!
