Crown DOWN nearly always slows down a Rolex!!
Hi guys,
In all my 27 years of Rolex wheeling and dealing, I've discovered that by placing the watch crown DOWN at night on your dresser, the watch will SLOW down a tick or two. This is for the benefit of those guys who find their watch running fast during the day. So, in order to negate this gain, just place your Rolex crown DOWN at night for about 8 hours or so and the gain will be neutralised overnight. Good luck - JJ

Thanks JJ... I've been trying various positions to correct my 16610 (it was defined by my watchmaker who's an AD, as running +3 on average after testing on a digital vibrograph).
I'll try the crown down, and I seem to remember Mr Chung telling me that it's the position where gains are less, down to +1. Law of averages eh?? Thanks for the timely thread JJ. |

actually after reading BO's thoughts, to prevent any further case scratching!!! i've started placing mine over night crown down to prevent and if anything gets scratched its just the crown as oposssed to the case side, and where my D "was" running at +3 ,over the last 10 days it has been running at +1 now over a 24hr period, i can actually see it picking up during the day whilst on the wrist if i check

I place mine on a soft cloth to keep it from getting scratched up on the table.

I lay mine down on my dresser, away from anything that could topple over on it, usually on top of a piece of clothing or a magzine. Otherwise, I don't really worry about the position. I think my watch runs about +1 a day, and I'm very happy with that.
However, I still don't understand this thing about not laying it down on the 9 o'clock side so as to prevent a flat spot on the case. If you always put your watch down on the crown side, doesn't that just focus the weight to the 3 o'clock side just above the crown? Wouldn't that make it even more likely that your watch would develop a flat spot? I've asked this before, and the reply usually is "no, the weight's on the crown." Ok, but the weight's also on the case and now it's concentrated on an even smaller area of the case. Yes, I'm slow. But I play a mean guitar, so there!

The most important questions is... Boxers, briefs or thong?
Also have you taken into account the percentage of fabric softener or dryer sheets that will transfer residue to the watch by placing on your underwear (talk about anal)? |

I'd like to find a position to lay my watch[es] at night so they gain a few seconds. So far I've found none.

Concur. As has been said by a few folks, the new era watches running at the higher rates don't seem to be as predictable. I can leave my watch in any number of positions to include face up and it still losing about 1.5 secs per day. |

In my experience, both have led to minor gains. Good luck - JJ

JJ you were RIGHT! my sub was running +5 when I had it set to my clock on my pc since Monday. I lay it crown down like you said when I got home yesterday at 5pm till this morning at 8am. 15 hour later with the crown down and its now running +3 !! It lost 2 sec. with end 15 hour with crown down!
