Diving watch

Hey everyone,

I've been following this forum for the past couple months, and have made a few accounts, but they always send me to a invalid redirect link whenever logging in, but figured out that the registration link logs me in. Any ideas?

Nevertheless, I'm a huge WIS and in search of that never-ending next watch. So far I have a Cartier Roadster, vintage Cartier Pasha Chrono, Omega Seamaster (1956), Panerai 111 and Radiomir, and a few other vintage pieces. I dive a good amount each year, and have a top-line dive computer so I don't have a dive watch computer, and want a watch that can handle 150 ft dives when needed, and also stand up to a beating. Must be brushed, as all of my others are not. Of course I've looked and have been told to get a submariner, seems like the most logical solution to my search. But everyone has it. Is there any other watch that may suit the needs of what I'm looking for diving, and to add to my growing collection that may be different? I've looked at the AP RO, but 10k pre-owned would be pushing it, although it would be great. Or a gmt?

Welcome.

Not everybody has a genuine Sub. :) Very few people I know or even come across have a nice watch at all, let alone a Sub, particularly the newer ceramic version. But yes, of those who do have a decent watch, Subs are common, simply because there's a lot to like. I have a Panerai Submersible, the truth is, I prefer to wear my ceramic Sub and blend in better than wear the Panerai and stand out a bit more. I've only ever had 2 people notice a watch I was wearing, both times it was the Panerai. Something to be said for wearing a great watch that doesn't grab attention.

But you can look at the Sea Dweller or the Deepsea.

A GMT, despite its 100m rating should easily handle 150' dives.

Spot on, the best dive watch in that price range and to the untrained eye it looks like a sub. Its as tough as old boots and is a true WIS dive watch.

I'd say the new upcoming SubC No Date. More comfortable than a Sea-Dweller which strangely enough never sit that well on my wrist compared to a 16610, 116610 or 116660. The lack of cyclops will make it look less like a Rolex, just like the SD but the new bracelet and less thickness makes all the difference in terms of comfort and I really prefer the extra lume provided with the maxi dial and hands.

Hard to go wrong with a classic SD though

Firstly, try using HTTPS to log into this site. Secondly the Submariner & Sea Dweller have polished sides so they're not brushed all over (the GMT has even more polished parts). What do you want out of a dive watch ?

Honestly not looking for much, just the ability to take it down with me and have it come back up working. I have my computer so there is no need for tracking time.

Thank you all for your replies! Greatly appreciated. Yes I know not many people do have quality watches, I tend to be called out on my Cartier Pasha more than anything, although it's probably due to it's horned croc strap. I get compliments multiple times a day when I wear it, although I prefer people to not know what I'm wearing.

Aside from the Seadweller having a greater depth rating, what does it have to up the bounty? I honestly am probably looking for a non-ceramic bezel for the durability and less popping appearance, is that offered?

Ok and the sea dweller does not have a ceramic bezel if you feel different then the best diving watch for you is the tudor pelagos

I have the same thing. When I log on, it's says "invalid redirect"

I just click "rolex forums" at the bottom, and then i'm logged on.

I think it's just a programming part of the html log on page that needs a bit of servicing, but it doesn't keep you from logging on. If you say remember me, you won't have the problem either.

Unfortunately, I log on using the phone ,and every couple days clear data and cookies on it to free up safari (it's a slave to data and cookies) and have to re-enter log on stuff and see the invalid redirect page.

It's not you.

AND,

Get a sub. I'd recommend a SS green or TT black face.

Thanks for the link Xenophon, the Tudor has caught my eye. I'm really leaning towards the SD now, seeing as it won't just be the watch I take diving, but I'll wear often.

The invalid thing is something to do with the site, I get it sometimes or if I've managed to log myself right out etc.

Nice to see someone else here who likes Cartier. I'm a big fan myself and own one. You'll always get compliments because so they look so great!

The Sub is popular because it's a good watch I guess.

Alright, I'm going to head into my local AD today to check out other options just in case.. How long was the seadweller in production/is there anything I should look out for when buying one second-hand?

Not sure if I'm a fan of the ceramic, but the deepsea is definitely too big for normal use as I'd like to be able to use it for.

Any of therolex sports watches should suit your needs... If its just for diving, why not a real dive watch? Do you need a chrono or non?

There are tons of relatively inexpensive dive watches that can go 1000ft or so some more...

The jaeger LeCoultre master compressor diving chrono is probably the best of the breed IMHO

Also the royal oak is only good for 50 meters

Thanks for your input on the JLC. I was planning on purchasing a Rolex, so I figured might as well make it a decent diving watch, not just a watch for diving. Don't have a need for chrono as I have a dive computer already.

Since you are in CT and close to the Canadian border, I'd drive over and look at the Tudor Pelagos. Great looking dive watch, not as common as the Sub by a long shot since it has just been released and it's a Tudor, and the Ti finish on it looks fantastic. My Ti Helson looks great and holds off tiny scratches better than my SD.

I dive with my SS Sub 16610 all the time. Have taken it down to 160ft+ and use it as a backup timer in case my primary computer fails. Great watch, always works, solid.

The just discontinued 14060m Submariner, or the 16600 Sea Dweller, discontinued 2008 (?).

Can't be beat imho.
