I doubt that a quartz Sub would sell even as well as the OysterQuartz and other iterations, which would not be well at all.

I know that there are WIS that would never ever buy a quartz watch but there are others including myself that owning a quartz watch doesn't bother me. Of course the price would have to be a fraction of a regular sub.

more seriously, i don't thing there was a HUGE price difference back in the day between the quartz and non-quartz DJs in the 80s and 90s, as rolex's quartz movement actually was pretty intricate.

Probably quite a few, but Rolex would never do it, it would devalue the brand. Rolex are looking to become more exclusive rather than chase lower price points

Completely agree.

I can't see any benefit to Rolex.

The only way I could potentially envisage a quartz submariner not devaluing the brand would be to have it priced the same as its automatic counterpart. Not a very likely scenario and a bit absurd the more I think of it.

Well if you was going to use the Rolex sub for what it was made for mainly diving.There are quite a few quartz watches around my own personal favourites any of the Citizen Aqualand 11 range.Now these watches give far more diver related information than any simple time lapse bezel.Now if Rolex did make a quartz sub similar to the Citizen and at a reasonable price perhaps there could be a market for one.But today most use a dive computer with a watch just as a back up. Just cannot see Rolex going to quartz today Rolex is more into the bling jewellery industry gone are the days of the tool watch subs or SD.

Blasphemy!!!!! Omega tried that with the SeaMaster Professional 300 and I don't think it was very successful.

On the contrary, it was massively successful, at least here in the UK. But quartz devalues a prestige brand, and that's why Omega are phasing out quartz, at least in their gent's models. With the De Ville revamp, only the Aqua Terra and Constellation can come with a quartz movement in a gent's size

For those of you who were curious about such a watch...I just found this Ad (maybe Rolex did make one before?) ...

BTW..I wouldn't buy a Quartz "Submariner"...apparently, Rolex's experiment with the "Quartz Miner" didn't work either, it was probably discontinued ages ago...
