Let's talk boots

I know a lot here enjoy finer shoes but I haven't come across any boot threads.

I've always had an interest in purchasing a nice comfortable pair of handmade cowboy boots. Nothing gaudy... just superb craftsman ship all around in a nice pair of roper style boots that can be dressed up or down.

A friend of mine suggested Black Jack boots which look great but am wondering what else is out there?

I also dream of someday owning a nice pair of custom boots. My style of choice is the harness style. To me, they just look business, not fancy.
Here are a list of some of the companies I know of. There are several boot threads here.
Search them out and read the recommendations.

Depends if you want custom made or not. If not, Lucchese makes a great boot.

If you want custom, there are many excellent boot makers with plenty of them in Texas. I would recommend some research (I could recommend a few), and when you choose one contact them and possibly fly out for measurements. With the best custom boot makers it could be 6 months to a year before you get your boots.

Easy, get on a plane over the Austin, TX, enjoy some good BBQ and head over to Heritage Boots on Congress Ave. Fab handmade boots and not even that expensive. Don't take my word for it http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolm...buy-right-now/

I had a pair of Tony Lamas when I used to ride back in AL. Great boots. I have a few friends with some very expensive handmade boots. I thought when the OP said boot he might be talking about regular boots. In that case hand made/hand measured Gokey boots are IMHO the best everyday boot ever made. Got a pair when I was 17 and still wear them all winter. My uncle has has a pair for 25+ years and my grandfather has had a pair since the 70s. Still perfect shape.

Sorry these pictures are pretty bad. But it shows my custom boot selection. I have always been a big fan of handmade boots and I use the heck out of them.

I agree. Alden is my to go brand for boots.

My Indy is not #8 shell, but I still really love the leather.

I will have to get both a pair of cowboy boots and those Indys. Do you think the Shell Indys would go with dark denim?

I have Florsheim, most comfortable shoes I wear. Actually have 2 pairs exactly alike, I rotate them like my watches. Gives then a chance to air out .

Love mine, although not shell but they have lasted me 10+ years. Recently had my buddy put a custom key lime colored sole on em!

I have a pair of red wings bought around 1999/2000 and have a number of cheap dress boots for work that isn't worth mentioning its make. I have a pair of Lucchese coming in soon.

I have a pair of Frye's (20 + years old) and couple of pairs of really comfortable (but worn) Noconas of the deer tanned leather. Now considering picking up a pair of Los Altos ostrich - maybe a little dressier to go with the black-dialed Rolexes.

Nocona makes a great boot. You can't go wrong with ostrich - kinda like a Rolex in that you can dress 'em up or dress 'em down and they always look good!

Best,
Skip

Does anyone wear riding or polo boots for regular wear? I like the lower (roper) heel but would like a higher boot. I don't know if they're comfortable at all and pretty expensive to experiment. Thanks for any advise.

I believe the type of boot you are describing is popular in Spain, in the bullfighting circles. A few friends of mine in South America that are involved in bullfighting wear these type of boots.
