Sea Dweller vs. Speedy Pro... decision made!

I had posted a thread last week seeking help regarding choosing between a Rolex Submariner 16610, Rolex Sea Dweller 16600, and Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonphase 3576.50. After my initial post, I had narrowed it down between the Sea Dweller and Speedy. And I did what any watch enthusiast would do... I picked up both...

The sad part is that I can't keep both, but I figure what better way to decide than wearing them and comparing them side by side in person.

The Sea Dweller arrived this past Monday and man what a watch! I've owned 5 or 6 different Omega Speedmasters but this was my first Rolex diver and I'm blown away. This will be one tough cookie to beat--beautiful case, perfect size, and super smooth bezel action. The bracelet and clasp does feel on the cheaper side but its super comfortable and surprisingly, I really like it. It does exactly what its supposed to do and does it well, exactly what a tool watch like the SD was made for.

Now to wait for the Speedy to arrive but I already have a hunch as to which one will be staying...

You have to pick the one you like the best but these are two completely different watches.

I have a Speedmaster and love it for the history and tradition.

If it had to be one, gotta go with the SD. I have both and am very lucky to be in that position.

Congrats on the SD! I used to own a 3572.50 but it just didn't do it for me so I sold it. The Seadweller on the other hand I have kept ;)

You definitely have a tough decision to make. You can't really go wrong.

The SD 16600 was my grail Rolex diver and I was fortunate to pick up an M-series. I also have a vintage 105.012 Speedy Pro as worn by Armstrong and other moon walkers.

I still have the Speedy Pro but the SD lost the wrist time wars to my Planet Ocean Liquidmetal Limited Edition.

But I suspect the SD will be your choice.

It will be the Sea Dweller. Once that soaks in, the speedy wont do it for you. Not the way it sounds anyway.

Thanks all! The Speedy might surprise me so I'm not super set yet but the SD is tough competition. Especially since these two are like apples and oranges--a tool diver vs. a chronograph.

The only things that might get me on the Speedy is the hand wound Lemania movement, display back, and rich history. We shall see!

I could live happily ever after with just the SD and Speedie. They're both THAT GOOD.

Those are the exact two watches I rotate! Love them both. SD gets more wrist time, but largley becuase I live in Hawaii and like the WR.

Only downside to these two is that they share many of the same visual cues (both SS w/ black dials and almost the same size). Would like to add a third at some point, but no hurry.

Two completely different watches. Both great watches on their own merits.

I say both in the collection if you can afford it. If not the SD.
