Hello folks
My D series 16710 is suddenly producing a grinding noise when shaked even without the bracelet on. It has never been serviced so I guess it is time.

Apart from the service how bad could it be?

I will visit RSC in a week from now because I am travelling...
Just wanted to get my sleep back for the next few days

Even though it works perfectly I have decided to keep it off my hand with the crown out just to be safe

Well D serial is from 2005/6 so perhaps watch needs a service but why are you shaking your watch?.If its working fine if you are not sure you have a problem there is no need to pull the crown out just let the watch stop and run down.Its possible that the winding rotor has become un-seated or some wear in the axle or something else very simple.

The grinding noise may be the rotor hitting the movement, caused by a worn rotor axle. The upper groove in the first pic below shouldn't be there, and this was from an eight year old watch. Any guesses where the fine metal wear particles went?

I just sent Rik a 16710 making the same noise, except mine wouldnt auto wind. It will after Rikki gets hold of it.
