vintage rolex servicing but dont want to lose the vintage?

Hi All,

As some of you have read I picked up my fathers vintage rolex made in the 1970's. I'm thinking of getting it serviced but don't want to lose the vintage look. I've heard that rolex will service your watch like new but I don't really want them to change anything.

Will rolex just service the watch without repairing? Any ideas of cost? Also will they likely service a watch from the 1970's?

Finally should I send it to rolex head office service centre (in the UK it is in London) or just use a local AD?

Thanks for any advice before I give them a call.
Cheers.

I wouldn't send it to Rolex !

We'll it all depends . . .

First search a little on TRF and find a (really good) independent watchmaker . . . he can do the job and doesn't change parts like hands, dials, bezels, etc . . .

But discuss it with him before things happen . . .

Anyway some other members here in the UK can get you the right coordinates for you ;-)

And post some pics of the watch !

I am not sure of the cost (at an RSC) on your side of the pond but I am sure someone will chime in soon. You can always call and ask. They should be able to give you the basic cost, barring no other parts need to be replaced (crystal, crown, etc.). If you do not want the dial and hands replaced, just state so.

There is an ongoing thread for recommended independent watchmakers, see below for a couple in your area:

I would only go with bob Ridley in Dallas. He's the best of the best when it comes to vintage Rolex.
