Speedmaster strap choices
I just read a thread by SUBversive (BTW, love that handle) about the Speedmaster on a strap.
A timely posting since right now I'm narrowing down my choices for two new straps for more versatility. I currently wear my Speedmaster on a matte chestnut red/brown alligator strap and really like it. I would appreciate readers' thoughts or votes: 1) Matte black alligator with black stitching. 1) Matte black alligator with slate gray stitching that matches the dial. 2) Matte chocolate brown alligator with matching stitching. 3) Matte dark blue/black alligator with matching stitching. 4) Matte dark blue/black alligator with slate gray stitching that matches the dial. These are the five combination that I want to choose from. As I said I'm looking for versatility and, of course, a great look on the Speedmaster. Thanks for your thoughts. Cheers, |

I vote for #1. Oh, wait...#1 is #2. But #2 is #3? Ok, I'll just vote for the matte black alligator strap. Oh, wait...
Seriously, go with black strap with black stitching. |

Cool straps for the speedy. Seems like the age old question with few answers. Thx for the new thread on this. I've posted a few times on topic with little to no reply. The omega section here needs a jump start for sure.
Anyway: I don't care for the original steel. So I've been using he isoprane rubber strap. After several months I got really sick of it and decided its a summer strap anyway. I just got a horween black shell cordovan strap. I searched for a long time and pulled the trigger in that. Wore it for a week. I like. Don't love it. Has a bit if a sheen that I'm told will fade. It's on the thin side with no pad. I'm not sure it matches the case. I took it off for now. But not ditching it. I moved back to a black NATO. I'm now in the market for a few new natos. Been on a few sites and ill try to repost with the links. I'm looking for top quality made in uk. Black and admiralty gray. Also looks for black leather. IMHO I'd go with number 1 on your list. Think it looks best on black or dark gray. I have a brown distressed strap from gunny but it just doesn't seem to work. I may go back to him as he is great to work with and top quality. I'm considering a racing strap. Still looking. Also the omega alligator sport model with the two raised humps appeals to me. Lastly I'm hoping to try a Velcro from gas gas bones if he ever re-opens. Appreciate others weighing in? Options. Sites. Recommendations? |

Only photo I have of it (and it doesn't show much of the bracelet).

It's more for looks. I'm not too concerned about the heft although you make a good point. Nice watch btw.

Another option is the rally strap. My personal favorite for a chrono.

Sadly the Rallye strap is no longer available. I asked the Boutique here in Chicago and was told they stopped making it a few years ago.

Ah very nice. Have my eye on gas gas.
Query if you don't mind. Which ones do you have? The basic, NASA version: is it like a NATO. Slip under the pins? Can't quite figure it out from his pics. He's been closed forever too. |

Can anyone recommend a good affordable rally strap? I think it would compliment my new acquisition.

My favorite Speedy Pro strap remains the gold brown Hirsch Medici:
I like the curved ends and over time, the strap takes on a vintage "bomber jacket" patina: You can also use the OEM Omega fold-over deployant with it. For more strap ideas, click here: Straps for the Speedmaster Professional Personally, I do not care for black straps on the Speedy Pro and they seem to make for too much black on the wrist. Here is a Hadley Roma oil tan on my "First Omega in Space": Here again, I like the vintage look for the Speedy Pro. |

Black Alligator with white stitching and (if you can find one) the OEM X-33 NASA Kevlar strap.

Thanks everyone
I've just ordered a brown alligator strap from Omega. I'm sure it will look great on my Speedmaster.
While I wait for the strap to arrive my thoughts now turn to how best to take care of it to make it last. Any thoughts? Thanks everyone for your comments. Jeff |

Here's the brown leather strap that came with my Speedy. Very comfortable and showing a nice patina after many years. Sorry no wrist shots.
