I got the parts list from Jocke's SM300 project, Rikki was kind enough to put it all together for me and did a full service on the movement. I know there are some who feel this is a franken-watch and I'm not going to debate that. If you take a movement from one watch and put it in the case of another, then it really isn't original or even original with replacement parts, it's an amalgamation. So I can't really call this an NOS Seamaster, it's a wanna-be, but it's my wanna be.

Didn't want to pay the watchco prices, didn't want to buy a watch I knew nothing about from ebay or watchuseek. Instead I borrowed Jocke's blue print, bought the parts from Otto Frei, and Rikki was kind enough to pull the movement from a vintage Geneva, service it and put it into a brand new 166.0234 replacement case.

Wow. Looks awesome. Its late and im lacking sleep but iam trying to follow what you did. The movement swap i get. The case is from otto. Are the face and hands new parts also?

Yeah they are all genuine Omega parts but they are replacement parts so they are not NOS.

Gotcha. Well a vintage 300 has been on my "want" list for some time. Seems like you just can't find them. Or I can't. I've also read its been a "faked" watch so one on chrono 24 seems suspect.

Anyway, if you are Frankenstein then I want to be igor. Looks great.

The vintage piece with the 565 cost me $200

all the parts were about $1,700 with the highest cost being the case-combo.

With shipping for all the stuff and Rikki's fee I'm about $2,120 all-in.

Vintage SM300's vary in price but they can be about 3-4K for examples in good shape, but the sticking point for me is it's hard to know what you're buying and fakes are all over. watchco pieces were retailing for $3,500

Love the watch. I have been wanting one of these for several years. May have to end up doing this since I agree there are too many "fake" or pieced examples out there to know what you are getting.

I PM'd Jocke almost a year ago to see if he would mind and he was happy to share information with me, so I took that as his blessing. It's just a great idea and one that I jumped on. It's hardly unique as many people have done it, not to mention the ubiquitous "Watchco."

So I don't see it as bad form at all, but to each their own.

I didn't even realize that this was a common-ish thing to do. I knew about all the SM300 fakes out there, but I don't recall seeing a custom build (I may have seen Jocke's but don't recall). Very cool stuff.

Thanks guys I appreciate your kind words, now that I've had it a few days I can report that Rikki has a movement from 1968 humming along at just about COSC standards and the watch itself is the most comfortable I have ever owned! I'm really liking the size and weight, there is something to be said for the size of a vintage piece!

Rikki looks to indeed be the man. I have a P Serial Submariner that is really good shape so im thinking for the few things it needs Rikki is just the guy to bring it back to new. Thanks for the post and great looking watch, I too am an Omega fan.
