Rolex-What Year? Heard mix things. 60s or 70s?
This Rolex was given to me by my father. He got it from his father, who I had heard bought it in Switzerland in the 1970s. 338233 is the serial number, which I am seeing conflicting results about. Some charts say 60s. Others say 1970s.
Recently, I was swimming with it on, and afterwards, the crown was open, and there was moisture. I just had it overhauled, the first time since 1980, according to Rolex records. Also, since it got moisture under the face, they dried it all out. The second hand to me looks blue, but the repair woman said it was patina from age and that Rolex never had watches with a blue second hand. When it was in for service, I asked if I could get a black face instead of white. They said "yes," and Rolex shipped from Texas one, but after it came in, I was told it wouldn't fir because of the way the glass attached...something about a curve. After many weeks and phone calls, Rolex returned my original face, which was cleaned. It had been turned in to get the black one. I am new to all of this and learned a new face can't be issued by Rolex without the old one. Luckily, they hadn't destroyed it yet. The watch keeps great time and winds smoothly, but I wonder if anyone can tell me anything else?!?!? Anyone have one of these suckers? Stainless Oyster. Serial 338233 Model 6480 Caliber 1210 Rolex Records say it was overhauled in NY at ROlex in 1980 * Band is not Rolex. I have the band my Grandfather had. The calendar is in the band, which seems to tell me that the watch came out before the perpetual calendar. Also, the band is in English and something else...maybe German. I can post pics of that, too if anyone is interested. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps0e084ee1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps54a2bf22.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps051e582c.jpg |
