New Rolex Explorer I suits my age?

Hey guys! Hope all is well! I have been told that I can buy a brand new explorer I for around 6000 USD give or take 500 or so USD. I have the cash and want to buy but before I do, I just want to ask if it suits my age? I'm 21 years old college student. And does it go well with casual clothes or just suits and dress shirts?

Because of my work (at a pharmacy) and future career as a pharmacist, I tend to wear lots of dress shirts and formal wear, so I can imagine myself wearing it often. But I also dress casual lots of other times too :)

Thanks!

Perfect all around watch. For sure.

I tend to think 21 is young, in general, for such an expensive watch.

But if you can afford it, and not go into debt, it's the best option for your criteria

Welcome to TRF, and imo the perfect choice for your age and profession.

Looking forward to the pictures once you pull the trigger.

My friend. I must respectfully disagree.

People notice, and people judge. It is part of the human condition. People make all kinds of various judgements in regards to just about everything we do, say or act upon.

It is a sad fact, but it is fact.

To the OP, it is a very under that radar watch, but people will for sure notice the oyster bracelet.

Of course people judge. I think the comment was intended to state that you shouldn't concern yourself with how/why others judge you for what watch you choose to wear.

You cannot control what other people do, but you can control what you do.

To the OP...do whatever you want. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Fair enough. And well said.

On the flip side, a 21 year old that might soon be going on interviews while looking for a job might be thought of a "certain" type of way because he is wearing a 6k$ watch.

As someone that employs people, I absolutely judge how effective they will be as employees by how the present themselves.

Not saying I believe this at all: But to play Devils Advocate, someone could see a 21 year old wearing such an expensive watch as a kid that had everything handed to him and might not know a proper work ethic.

Sad to say, but it is something to think about. And in some situations, might absolutely be true.

This is ultimately a long debated issue. I had started a sort of similar post on this and got tons of different responses.

In a perfect world, I would not care how other people judge me.

But in a world where my presentation of self helps me to pay my bills and feed myself, it is IMHO, important to think how our decisions might come into play when other people are making their decisions about us.

I disagree. A watch is quite a small accessory and generally, unless one hangs out in a very small judgmental social climbing crowd, it"s unnoticed. Im not saying you are part of that crowd btw. I do agree that people are judged (and even by material things) but a watch is probably really low on the list IMO. A rolex is a relatively inconspicuous luxury item...unless you're into watches.

X2, especially if the watch is under the radar such as the explorer.

I purchased my Rolex when I was 26 back in 2000. I think perhaps maybe 8 or 9 people have ever noticed my watch and said something since I have had it. Of those, one or two were fellow Rolex wearers, some simply appreciated it as they enjoyed watches.

For the record, I've been a Rolex owner since I was 18, and I don't believe anyone has ever commented on me wearing a much more noticeable Datejust w/ PCLs outside of the AD I used to work at. I seriously doubt it would be an issue

If you can afford it, go for it. If you make your watch an issue it will become one.
If you do not emphasize your watch to others, they will not likely notice.
In any event, have you considered buying here on TRF from a Trusted Seller?
I have names for you if you want, or if not, just go to that section on TRF, and you will find one. Unless you absolutely need to go to an authorized dealer(AD ), you can buy a genuine rolex through TRF, and save perhaps one to two thousand dollars. I'm sure the extra loot in your pocket would come in handy. Anyway, good luck!

Hi, the Explorer I was one of the watches I was considering when I was in the market for one. I bought mine a year out of college (age 23). The ExpI is probably the most discrete Rolex of the line-up, I think it's a fit for any man, young or old.

The more appropriate question is will an Exp suit your level of maturity.

This may shock you all but i'm 17 and i have the following:

AP Diver
PAM 111
Rolex 116610LN Sub C
PO 42mm
Rolex Explorer II 42mm

I do get some looks when i'm wearing the Sub C and the PO but not the other watches because no one really knows what they are. My Explorer II arrived today and I have not worn it in public yet so I cant say if its an attracting to any one as yet. Being 21 should be no problem. you may ask where in the world would you get the money for all them watches i own but the fact is my gran passed away and left money in her will saying,"spend this money only on what you want most".

Very nice collection, sir. Not too many youngsters sporting that kind of quality on their wrists. Make sure to save some of the money for pubs and women, though.

I can't think of anything better to spend the money on at your age to honest. It makes you happy and that's what your gran wanted. At least you're not p1ssing it up the wall, then again...

1) IF you are worried about looks just start wearing a shirt and dress pants. It's casual, semi formal or formal depending how you do it.

2) get a Daytona

3) if people comment say you bought it because you need it for work, you know mixing.

4) BS like you never BSed before because it's not about showing of, it's about showing of without anyone realizing. (that is art)

Get what you like- No one will ever notice. In five years not one single person has ever commented on my watch.

Especially with an under the radar classic like the Explorer. It is a perfect choice for an all purpose watch you can easily have for the rest of your life.

The Explorer is an excellent choice. However, I'd take the 6k, get a 2 line Sub (no date), and pocket $1,500 for party money!!! However, the Explorer will suit you fine in any outfit, and if people notice, smile, and enjoy the love.

It is a great watch. The perfect combination of elegance and sportiness, combined with that superb bracelet and clasp. Your age, in my opinion is of no issue. If you do not buy the watch that you want now, and instead buy a different one, you will almost immediately start wanting the Explorer as well. This has happened to me.

Owning a rolex as a young person has done nothing but open up opportunities, make me new friends, and provided wonderful conversations. I'm sure it will be similar for you.

Enjoy the watch!

+100 to all of the above. If you have the disposable income and you want it, get it. I wish I would have bought one at your age. The Explorer I would make a great first as well as "lifetime" watch. Congratulations in advance!

pretty sure most ppl cant see the rolex since you'll be wearing coats 99% of the time at work.

Just do it. If you dont do it now, 20 years later you're gonna look back and say Why didnt I just buy the damn thing

People can fork out unnecessary money on things such as booze, and that expenditure alone can account for a new rolex/preowned provided they drink every 2-3 days per week in a year.
