Submariner with black bezel vs submariner with green bezel (LV)
Hi guys. Just would want to know which of the two is better in terms of long term use. I am about to buy a submariner but am still undecided between the two since other people would advice me to get the black bezel since its more easier to pair with clothes while others would say to get the LV because its nicer. For you guys, which would be better?

well.... IMHO If we are talking one watch for the long run(daily wear, etc) and no consideration of collectibility(assuming that one day LV will be out of production), I would definitely go with the black

I believe that it is up to you. Do whatever you like cause you are the one that is going to wear the watch. If i where you i would go for the black SS sub cause i do agree with what other people advice you. The green LV is a bit difficult to match it with clothes JMO

Grenn is out of production so if you want that I would jump on it before they are all gone at list price.

The difference between the two is a maxi-dial, fatter minute hand, and color of insert. The LV IMO has the advantage of a larger marker surface area which gives the watch more lume for use in less than ideal conditions. Black is the classic color of the Rolex dive watch and as such has an iconic status. Green is the corporate color, and for what it's worth, is the much less seen reference "in the wild". If I had to pick one over the other, I'd take the increased functionality of the LV but that's just me. Others will much prefer the black watch. |

If it's just the one....then I'd recommend this one in a heartbeat....still the BEST Rolex out there - no ifs or buts about that!!

The other thought is to get the LV, order a black bezel insert and swap it out. You get the Maxi-dial with the LV, and can keep the green bezel insert for later and/or "collector's value" for what that's worth. Of course, I foresee the green bezel insert being available for some time.
The other thought is to get a used black at more cost-effective price! If it were me, I'd go black - JJ is right, the quintissential Rolex Sport!

There is no problem "matching" the LV with clothes, the green bezel is rather subtle in real life (IMHO). The green bezel does make the watch special in my opinion as there are far fewer of them in existence than the black bezel and thus it is more exclusive.
The maxi dial on the LV is stunningly beautiful particularly when you "really get your lume on". Having said that, they are both excellent choices and you should choose what YOUR heart tells you rather than what we all say. As you can see, there are some rather strong opinions for either watch. I'm actually going to buy a black bezel for mine if I keep it. I love the maxi dial and larger minute hand, but the green is getting old quick.

Forget about clothes matchin man ... with a rollie on your arm, you can wear a fishing net on your head and look cool! Everything becomes alive with an SS SUB or SEA DWELLER on your arm. Yeah, the classic color is blk ut it is your watch. So mix and match BUT ONLY WITH AD PARTS and you will have fun with it. Don't get too formal in terms of purity and KEEP ALL YOUR PARTS... Experiment with it and you'll have fun.....I was gonna go with a RED bezel on my sub but the AD said there is not such thing ... So no matter what color you go with, it will look cool because it's a real rollie!!

I have had both Subs....Although I really liked the Maxi-Dial and additional lume on the LV, I could never really get used to the green bezel. I am sure it was just my imagination but, I often felt the green bezel often didn't go with some of my attire. I decided I could live with the Black Sub as it goes with everything!
I really like the idea of buying the LV and swapping out the bezel for a standard Black one. That way you have the best of both worlds if the LV ever ceases production and becomes collectible (doubtful,I think). Best of luck with your choice. |

Get the LV............for some reason you can change the green Bezel out for a black one, but you cannot take a black sub and place a genuine LV bezel.

The answer is simple... Black. It's the only color that goes with everything, you won't get sick of, and lastly, it's the color that belongs on a dive watch. Don't get me wrong, I like the blues and greens, (the blue sub is what attracted me to rolex in the first place), but when I buy a sports watch, and I will, it will be SS, black on black. I'll leave the "BLING" to my DD and DJ.

I went with the LV since I find the black a little too boring and common. The maxi dial is really nice and splash of green makes it stand out.

Well you can also be patient and wait until basel festival. Who knows maybe rolex might release a new submariner.

If the option is there for you, try them both and see which one winks at you. I went to my AD and they had the LV for me to try, the first one was reserved for the store owner. He has to see every new model and decide if he wants it or not...anyway, the AD had the standard sub so it was easy to compare both and something about the green bezel sub made it endearing to me. The decision was made and I just had to wait and see if the owner wants it. A few weeks later he finally stopped by the store and decided he didn't want it, and the rest is history...

I just bought the 16610 SS Sub Date with CRB. Totally awesome.... Took to the AD again today to tailor the sizing a bit more for my wrist.
I believe in classic. Classic style, look, color and watches.... Go with the classic man. I too love the LV - and thought of buying but, IMHO - anyone can get one so - go with classic. But, only you know what will smile at you when at AD! Salute to you good sir! Rolex will find you soon... |

You can always put a black bezel on the LV for the stealth look! Very very nice IMO, one of the only mods I would ever consider.

I really like my 16610LV, but if you can't go "green" because it might clash, I'd say go 16600.
