Rolex Explorer 1 114270 vs ?
I'm totally new to watches and want to buy a Rolex Explorer 1 36mm like the 114270, although should I consider the 14270 if I find a good deal? I heard bad things about its movement..
Any ideas on the best places to buy a used rolex? I see them on ebay, is there anything I should look for or look out for on an ebay watch or used rolex specifically? Does anyone know what my local rolex dealer would charge to authenticate a used rolex I buy myself? Thanks for any help! |

There are trusted sellers right here on the forum to buy one.

Check the sales section as well as the "who's who" section. Advice, buy the seller, then the watch.

Also take a look at the Oyster Perpetual ref. 116000, pretty much an identical watch to the 114270 (same size, same movement, same look), but features the revised bracelet and clasp, plus a nice dial selection. They tend to be cheaper than the 114270 as well

Very dangerous to by Rolex on eBay. Some fakes are very hard to tell from real ones even by experts. Safer to buy from forum. Safest to buy from AD! My opinion only

That is why I was thinking about having my local authorized rolex dealer authenticate one if I do that; I would think they could even catch the best of fakes? but not sure what they would charge...

Does anyone know is the Oyster 116000 still made by Rolex or is that a discontinued model? I have such trouble finding watches on their website.

Yeah, I am not sure on the bezel difference between this and the explorer if I like that, but I think I may drive over to my local authorized dealer and check this out. |

The only legitimate criticism of this movement (including the much de-bunked Odet article) is that it is not "highly decorated" as no Rolex movement is...
