Icon19 AP RO vs VC OS Date vs JLC MCC2

I put a hold on a JLC master compressor geographic and chronograph 2 at a local AD. For months, I ve been wanting the VC Overseas Date but that is the absolute entry model. Then a few of my lady friends saw me looking at an AP Royal Oaks Dual Time & Self-Winding Date a few days ago and gave me thumbs up on the brand and its looks.

For AP, the screws on the bezel didn't really do it for me, but when I saw it today in person, it looked much better and I liked it. But just like the VC, this AP model is the absolute bottom entry level.

I saw a few threads in here that AP is unreliable and was troublesome compared to other brands? Is this true?

What do you guys' intake on getting a watch from the best 3 but the absolute bottom model? I wanted to go with the JLC since it has the complication with the price being approx $11k - 14k. Good bang for the buck and understated than VC, PP, and AP. I read JLC don't keep their value which I don't really care. What you guys think?

I wouldn't look at any of your choices as "absolute bottom entry level".
Yes, they may be the least expensive, but for many, they are grail pieces.

I'd take the AP over the other 2 anyday without hesitation.
The simple clean dial is one of the attributes that makes that AP so stunning.

Good luck. All of the manufacturers that you're looking at are top of the food chain.

As mentioned by Travis, there are no entry models in this trifecta. I would pick either of the Royal Oaks from this selection.

All of them will take a good hit on resale. Of them I would go dual time or JLC Chrono 2.

Having got some wisdom from TRF forums,i can share my experience, nothing substitutes how a watch looks on you in person.I did try overseas, dual time and 15400.15400 stood out without question, its a stunner to look at. That's reason its back bone of AP collection.

Hmm AP is almost unanimous with one JLC vote. Its an AP forum haha. I am afraid there are too many of these RO around like the Daytonas. I heard from a friend that one meeting she went to, half dozen guys were wearing the same $22k Hublot watches. I wantsome exclusivity which is the reason for leaning towards the JLC MC Geographic or MC Chrono 2. Since there is no VC forum, VC is really not that famous over other manufacturers.

I had the JLC MCC2, I loved it but ended up selling it. I never regretted selling it. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice piece, winding it, setting the time and date revealed the quality of the build of the movement. It was so smooth, so accurate. The fit and finish is nice but not as nice and detailed as the AP.

The AP is a beautiful watch, stunning in fact. The 3120 caliber is a masterpiece according to most people but I had to fight with it at first, wiggle smoothly the crown when re-inserting it so the minute hand doesn't jump 5 min more or less. Not that I care for ultimate accuracy, it's just something I was not used with my 2 JLC.

To me, I see more the AP as a high maintenance car, just like a nice Ferrari. It takes a little more attention and maybe maintenance but the look, finish is second to none.

Take the time to try the JLC MCC2 is you go that route, I ended up finding that the carving in the case back to be uncomfortable after some time. The carvings are quite sharps.

Nonetheless, all choices are great watches and far from entry models, and I would vote for the AP in a blink of an eye.

Chers

RO for me. If I was considering a Rolex, the JLC and VC would be considerations but not with an AP.

If RO Chrono were among my choice, that would most likely be my pick, but the standard date RO I feel is too boring when I can get the GMT and Chrono complication on JLC. I feel I would be tired of looking at the plan RO dial however handsome it looks. Do you guys understand where I am coming from?

Follow your heart my friend, it is good to go for the Dual Time if you think the 15300/15400 too plain for your liking.

And, there's no entry RR or Bugatti!

As an AP, Rolex, Omega and otheres owner, I'd go with the VC Overseas Dual Time... My Goodness, it's beautiful and a bit left-field!

Hrmm, tough decision for sure. My top two manufacturer loves are AP and JLC... Just outstanding pieces, presence and history !

A classic 15300 Royal Oak is always a sure bet, it's simplicity grows on you, it's literally perfect ..

The more complicated let's say extreme world chronograph, is more busy, larger but still a beauty and amazingly crafted beast. It serves many functions, JLC, rugged or dressy.. I like that

All depend son your main wear and style

Here is one of my JLC's, LE 500

Wow that Extreme World Chronograph is sick. I don't think I saw the carbon dial from the catalog though. Awesome

It would be helpful to know what is currently in your collection.

As stated, would not consider the watches "entry level", but if they are.... I'm loving "entry level".

I have owned the VC Overseas, and own a JLC Geographic and AP ROO. AP is incredibly elegant, simple and refined. The VC Overseas is simple but has a gosh more flare with the design highlights; specifically the integration of the Maltese into the bracelet and bezel is a design style that I really like. The VC does not use an in-house movement, but is a JLC movement. The layout of the dial on the JLC geographic is both balanced and interesting.... love the little flag for the AM/PM indicator and the red highlights.

For me, I like bracelets. If you want a bracelet, then I would not choose the JLC Geographic as I am not a fan of the fully polished bracelet. Just a tad too shiny. However, if you have a few watches with bracelets then it can be contender on strap.

I have not seen much evidence that AP is any more unreliable then other high end manufactures.

Since you mention resale is a non-issue, I do not see any downside for any of the choices. If I only had one watch in my collection, for me; it would be the AP, closely followed by the VC Overseas.

I like JLC better. As you said I don't like the screws on the bezel of the AP.

Issue w the VC is the out-of-house movement.

The AP is a very different and sexy watch. I find the bracelet of the AP unmatched.

You have to love the genta design. If not, try something else. Just don't but a watch and think its 'entry level' - but what you have a connection with.

But it 2nd hand and you'll be fine on the depreciation front.

I get as many compliments on my AP as with my DDII plat.

I'm not a fan of that VC. I also would get the Extreme Lab 2 over the MCC2 - I ALMOST pulled the trigger on this.

The extreme lab is extremely nice.

But from your choices I'd go for the AP.
