I was wondering what is a safe method that you use to charge the lume in order to get it lasting the longest time? How long do leave it there for?

I feel a bit uneasy holding it up to a hot desk lamp...

In Thailand the intense sun charges it up for me in seconds if I am outside. If I'm just playing aaround with it, taking a photo, I will use a small torch or lamp. I don't worry about it at all. Whatever I do though it goes dim very quickly and although they say it lasts to to 8 hours there is no way mine does. Not even close. An hour or two maybe, max.

I'd say just daytime wear should charge it up

The new CFL bulbs do a much better job charging the lume than an incandescent. I find 5 minutes is more than you need for all night. Try to get it close to the bulb. I hang it above the bulb when I can.

If you dont have a uv lamp then try sunlight. Sunlight also contains uv rays

The lume is photo (light) sensitive... It excites (charges) in a matter of seconds; so holding it in front of a light source for more than that is not going to wind-it-up like a mainspring...

Ultraviolet light is the best way.
Get a little UV torch to use. I have one on the underside of a lighter. Shine it at your watch for a fraction of a second and the lume will be glowing like you've never seen.

Anal explanation:
The lume works by photoluminescence. It absorbs photons from electromagnetic waves. Shorter wavelength (higher frequency) photons carry more energy. Ultraviolet is higher frequency than visible light (hence the ultra bit) and therefore powers the lume better.

Give it a try.

Any type of light really. I think what you're getting at by asking what is "safe" is what, if any type of light might harm the lume? I don't think that any certain light will do that. Mine glows brightest when charged by good old sunlight.

It is true that I can hd mine up to any type of artificial light for quite some time and get only a reasonable amount of lume, or I can get about 30 to 60 seconds of sunlight and get amazing lume for a long period. So, unless I want to be concerned w/ how much damage the sun is gonna do when I wear it for hours outside instead if minutes, than who cares how much artificial light it gets!
