I have been swimming with a leather strap on my sub

I like leather/crocodile/alligator straps better than steel bracelets. Recently I have been swimming with a leather strap on my sub no date and iwc. I know I will probably pre-maturely age or destroy the strap but I don't care. Would rather use the watch freely and replace the strap later if I need to. Anyone else swim with leather?

I have a friend whose everyday wear watch is a gold PP grand complication. He swims everday with it and spends summers at beach house. He is constantly replacing straps but could care less.

Enjoy the watch and replace strap when necessary.

Leather Strap on Sub

Yes. All the time. I use the Horween NATO which is not really leather but more the sinew of the horse (according to Horween). Snorkeled with it last month in the Bahamas and it was fine.

This is a good idea for some croc leather swimming trunks or bathing suit. Swimming in style with your Rolex watch on leather strap. ;)

If the cost of the strap doesn't matter for you, it would be a great idea.

Nope, not a strap guy but if I was I wouldn't do it. If you're okay with it though that's what matters.

I would'nt, but if that's what suits you, great.

Last time I was visiting my AD a fellow walked in to order a leather strap for his gold PP, only $800.

I really, really would like to. But my OCD to keep things as pristine as possible prevents me from doing so. Hell, I won't even wear my leather strap watches if I think I am likely to sweat. It's a sickness........

I wouldn't wear a leather strap swimming, and not just because of the cost of replacing it. I'd be just as concerned about it weakening then failing at some point, and having my watch fall off my wrist. Depending on what it hits if that happens, the cost of a strap might be the least of it.

I only wear the leather strap for swimming if I'm going to also wear my wingtips. Sorry. In all seriousness, I have worn leather for swimming with acceptable outcome, they were shark leather and stingray and had been designated as "water-proof" or "water-resistant" by the manufacturer. I find stainless, especially mesh, very excellent for swimming because my limbs undergo dimensional change (shrinkage, no?) when I swim.

For me, water and leather don't get along particularly well...

Sinn makes some very nice 20 mm water restant leather straps that hold up very well to swimming in my experience.

I don't like leather straps for that reason.
