Spotting those fakes
Hi All
Obviously new to the forum and I do like looking at this section. Some of the fakes are so bad its obvious even to me but some not so, would you mind when you report the fakes perhaps but underneath what stands out as to making the watch a fake? Always nice to learn something new. Many thanks Daren |

So what if he stumbles upon a watch, thinks it's the real deal and gets frauded. "He should have checked with the forum" but what if he couldn't. Way to go. If I can help someone I will and do so. I've been reading and watching all kind of forums/books about the submariner and it's just difficult to notice the small details. |

I guess I've never understood this since it's in the FORUM RULES & POSTING GUIDELINES 'sticky'...
6. Any allegation that a watch is a 'fake' must be supported with reason/s otherwise the post will be removed forthwith without notice. Just say'n... |

I've edited the guidelines to try to achieve a balance between the watchout guidelines and the bigger, stronger and nastier global commandments in the main Rolex section. |

Going into detail on why a watch can be identified as fake, especially the high grade ones, provides insight to those who engage in such fraud methods to improve their scams and helps them defraud even more individuals who desire a true quality Rolex as an example.

Just hang here, take a look at the pics others post and soon fakes will just look WRONG to you, even if you don't yet know why sometimes. At least that is what happened to me. :)
Also many times folks here do say why they think watch is fake, you can learn a lot by going through old threads. |

Vitus992,
This section is not a place for learning for the most part due to the secrecy involved. The only way you can use it to learn is to see a fake, then go elsewhere to do your research. Do that 1000 times and maybe you'll learn something. I've given up coming into this section, it's like a private club (grin... saying that with humor, guys). I stop by once every 2-3 months, but I'm not sure why. Maybe to remind myself that I don't know enough to get into vintage Rolexes!

it does get easier with practice ,,, i often ask myself if i would have spotted the fakes ,,, some ar horrid ,,, some take a fair bit of study to find out why others think its obvious ,,,, but
i find it amazing and fun to spot the fakes only thing i wish is that e bay would write a notice saying item withdrawn cos its tragic some of the fake spotters on here are great , ant the money and grief they must have saved buyers is frightening ,,, ive gotten sick of writing ,,, you guys are great , so often , i just type ygag now .. so , keep up the spotting and the reporting , and ill keep trying to spot fakes again ygag. |
