Rolex movements are based on ETA??
Hi guys:
i'm confused if Rolex movements are in-house made or based on ETA movements? i've been collecting for almost 13yrs now and i've thought Rolex uses the in-house movement, but i had a conversation with Hublot assistance boutique manager and he was telling me Rolex is based on ETA not all in-house even with Daytona 4130 movement? did i miss something here? he also told me that he has been in watch industry for about a year and kept telling me that Rolex uses ETA and that's why Hublot started using ETA and now switching over to Unico. |

Apparently he hasn't learned much about watches in the last year. |

agreed, i've told him TWICE rolex is in-house and was the first brand i started with and then he was saying even daytona uses ETA.
not sure how Hublot runs their boutiques with the staffs that lack of watch knowledges |

Go to a Rolex AD, they're not much more knowledgable in a lot of cases. Ask them about Hubolt...and see what they have to say.

Certainly confused he was. At one time the Daytona sported a Zenith movement - but that's changed and is now 100% in-house Rolex.
Where there is a tiny shred of truth is this: ETA and Rolex and others often use components that are from outside suppliers. Like the KIF shock system until Paraflex came out. Also, they tend to lift each other's designs for components, too. So the shred is this: All Swiss watch movements share a lot of the same DNA in the gene pool.

He is either trying to spook you into Hublot, or he is lacking passion on his day job.

I have vintage Rolex with ETA movement but to answer your question no modern Rolex uses an ETA movement.
