$500 savings for grey market?

I can get 10% off plus no sales tax on the Rolex I'm planning to buy.

Do you guys think it's worth buying from a grey dealer such as Alan Furman to save an extra $500 and not have the 2 year Rolex warranty?

What kind of watch?

Never worth it for me. Had a bad experience ONCE going gray and will not go back to that.

Better off finding a US AD that will work with you a little. Way better off that way.

It is VERY easy to offer all kinds of lifetime warranties, but if one of the three big AUTHORIZED ROLEX service centers are not doing the work, I don't want ANY part of it.

You are better off buying pre-owned and spending $500 sending it to RSC for a touch up.

Poof, you have a warranty.

Agreed. Or spend the extra $500.00 for piece of mind at an AD.

which one of the grey market dealers? that would make the final decision for me. what are the chances of the watch breaking?

is it 500.00 or 500.00 plus your local sales tax. thats almost another 10% for me so it would defiantly be worth it if the dealer is reputable.

I wouldn't do it to save $500. What I have found is that you can get the same price at an AD if you get a discount + have it shipped out of state if you can do that. Then it becomes a very easy choice: Go with the AD.

Also, buying from an AD is so much more fun and interesting. I would gladly pay $500 for the personal service, the buying experience and the ability to try everything on and being treated as a good customer.

Not for 500 dollars.
For a thousand or more... I'd probably do it.

What model are you looking for? You have a fantastic resource here for finding a AD that will give you a great discount and not charge sales tax. You should really pass on the hole grey dealer thing, I bought my sub. from my local AD for $50.00 more than a grey dealer and he didn't charge me tax....you just need to ask for AD recommendations.. Good luck.

Please PM me your dealer. I may be buying a SD real soon. Working on it anyway.

Thanks.

Personally, I buy from an AD only. You might serve some money on buying "grey", but nothing beats the advantage of being able to have it service under guarantee if you need to have your Rolex serviced.

Also, I prefer being able to handle and inspect the watch before I buy it.

I say that if saving 500 bucks and tax (another few hundred ) is what it takes to tip somebody over the edge to get their prize....

Go For It !!!

Alan Furman has their own warranty with qualified watchmakers on site. Check their policy because their warranty is probably longer than the Rolex warranty.

BTW, This (most recent) was my only experience buying from a grey dealer. Perhaps if I have trouble with my watch and with Alan Furman fixing it then my opinion will change. However, for my next purchase I really can't think of a reason I would pass up that great discount.

I always like to go AD. I got decent discounts from my AD. The peace of mind with being able to inspect and handle the watch prior to plunking down the money is worth a few hundred dollars to me. Of course, that's only my opinion.

The SD and Ladies DJ I bought recently were ordered from Rolex by the AD, and came directly into the AD's safe until I bought it. Just how I like it.

I agree that the AD is the safest and best route if money is not the issue. I bought my LV from there and being able to stand in front of that glass case and handle my watch prior to purchase is a great experience. My DJ purchase was done via grey dealer because I needed the discount. It was brand new and arrived with everything the AD would have given me except I paid much less. However, if the AD offers you a comparable discount then that would be the way to go

Not for $500. A problem fixed by Rolex will cost you at least that much. I wouldn't trust most gray guys to stand by the "Warranty".

i haven't read any bad press on any of the boards about furman or swiss luxury. let me say this about the factory warranty, it's a rolex, is it going to break? it had better not. if it does? there are qualified watchmakers in every part of the world that can fix it. it's not rocket sience, it's a watch.

i bought my gmt2c at my ad and they gave me a modest 150.00 discount and that was better than most of the grey dealers were doing at the time, but i had to pay almost 10% in taxes. overall i am satisfied with the price, service and of course the watch it's self. when i bought it they were hard to find in my area. with that said, if i were trying to buy a readily available watch the sale is going to the lowest bidder with out a question. it's the same product coming from the same factory, i am the first owner, i remove the plastic, it is the same brand new watch only at a lower price.

my next purchase will be for a watch for my self and my wife so the price will be the deciding factor as to where they come from. when you figure about 15% discount on 2 watches and almost 10% taxes on them you are talking about a few thousand dollars depending on the choice of watches.

trust me when i say that will be the deciding factor for me. the watches i am interested in this time are all readily available and discountable. my wife wants a ladies platinum ym and i want either a blue tt sub, platinum ym or a tt daytona as the ss hunt is over. the deciding factor as to which one i chose for myself will entirely depend on the discounting going on for a two watch purchase.

If you're getting 10% off plus not having to pay tax already, I wouldn't do it, Vu. There's something to be said for peace of mind.
