Royal Oak Jumbo Chrono Tourbillion

Guys,

This watch is my #1 dream watch. It is absolutely stunning, with its large size and beautiful strap. This would be a no brainer buy for me, however the hefty MSRP puts it so far outside of my budget that I can't justify the cost.

I spoke to a couple traders in London who said they sell for around £75,000 (120,000 USD) almost new (1 year old). This got me thinking. If they are indicating a price of £75k, then I think the watch can possibly be had for significantly less than their indicative price. From my limited experience, these traders tend to ask for quite high prices, so if they are starting at £75k then I can't help but think there is still more room to negotiate.

What do you guys think this watch could be had for via a grey dealer new or lightly used? I checked chrono24 and the prices were far too high. Before eliminating this as a potential option, I wanted to ask you guys.

Thanks

I have the all yellow gold piece. It is fantastic. However not cheap. Prices you mention above are very good.

I'm not sure about the prices but grey dealers obviously want to make the best profit they can when they sell watches, otherwise they wouldn't do this as a job. Their starting price is usually negotiable to a certain point but you would most probably have to compare that watch to other models sold elsewhere to get a good idea of the true market price. Keep in mind that usually the best selling watches (stainless steel Rolex sports models for instance) or very rare timepieces are harder to get at a good discount as they either are real collectibles or selling so much that sellers don't even have to discount them.

That watch may not be a Grandes Complication but it remains quite a masterpiece from AP, the tourbillon escapement is a very expensive feature on a watch nowadays so high end watches with that escapement come with a big price tag. Add to that the precious metal of the case and you get a watch at the price you mentionned. Perhaps you may find better deals but I don't know how much you really can save on this one...

It is such a beauty!

If it could be had in the low £60ks I don't think I could resist.

I saw a 2008 RG AP ROC Tourbillon at Blowers in Hull few months ago. They said MSRP was £165000 and they were asking £92000 for it

I don't really like it as far as looks are concerned. Not every tourbillon is a smash hit.

The fit of it isn't great in my view unless you have very very large flat wrists. The flatness and the overhang of the lugs means that it doesn't wrap the wrist well and there are big gaps under the lugs which cause it to flap around - of course this just relates to my wrist, but this was a very serious potential purchase for me until I wore it. A great shame as it is a lovely piece.
