What Would You Do?
I have an Omega Seamaster Pro 300m that I bought new about a year and a half ago. Since that time I bought a new Datejust. I have really grown to like the Datejust and Rolex in general. I am considering selling the Omega and buying a new SubC. It looks like this will cost me about $5k difference. Just interested in other peoples thoughts on this move to the Sub. In some respects very similar watches and I'm wondering whether this makes sense. Thank you for your comments.

I have kept a Seamaster in the collection when I didn't have a Sub. But you may like an "all Rolex" lineup better.
If you seek a pre-owned Sub, you won't need to spend $5k above the sale value of the SMP.

Drop the seamaster, get a pre owned sub, won't hurt the wallet as much. IMO they're not similar watches. You'd be upgrading, as the price clearly reflects.

I'd keep the SMP (unless you absolutely don't want to wear it anymore) as it won't get you that far upfield. Save for the SubC.

[QUOTE=swils8610;4571061]I had a similar situation. I have since sold the Omega and now have a Sub. I don't regret at all.

I had this delema as well. I pretty much liquidated my non-Rolex collection for a new Sub-C ND and a minty preowned new gen DJ. I'm really proud of my smaller and brand consistent collection which brings a tremendous amount of personal enjoyment. You can't beat quality over quantity.

I have liquidated breitlings and tags in interest of letting them see wrist time elsewhere! Once I had my Rolex, I lost interest in wearing them. I thought I was a collector who'd never sell pieces. Nothing wrong with tightening your collection and moving it upmarket. I'm now excited to roll those funds into something which warrants wrist time with my gmt2c! If you won't wear it, sell it to someone who will. It's too nice a piece to sit around in your closet.

You guys that sold your Omegas what was the process--did you sell here on the forum? One of the trusted sellers offered me about $2700 for the SM in trade for a new SubC. However, I can pretty much match the price of the Sub at my local AD--plus I have a $500 gift certificate I can use from the purchase of the Datejust.

Well, in regards to a trade it would be easier through a forum trusted seller as my local AD does not take trades. On the other hand the new SubC at the AD would probably cost me less. I don't have experience selling watches in forums, Ebay, etc so that would be bit more trouble.

eBay is easy but you also need an account and reputation too. I've sold a lot of stuff on eBay so it's pretty easy for me. But the fees are horrendous, borderline mafia.

I hate a hassle and always willing to lose a little for convenience. You can trust the TRF sellers here. Both of my pieces came from DavidSW. My Sub-C ND was BNIB. As good as you'd get from an AD. But go with your gut, ok. For your own piece of mind.

I don't know all of the details about your situation; however, I would personally do everything I could to get my hands on a new SubC. I don't think you could go wrong either way. If you sell your current piece and get the SubC you could always purchase another Omega down the road. Sounds like you are in a great spot!

Incoming!
Well---I decided on a new SubC black and pulled the trigger. I have a good relationship with a AD (bought a Datejust from them this summer) and got about 18% off. I still have the Seamaster Pro but will probably sell it. I'll post pictures when I get the Sub.

Getting a Rolex often decreases affection towards other brands and in my case, Breitling.

I can't speak on the Omega but I can tell you this. I bought a brand new Sub C a year ago and I love it as much as the day I bought. I know this will sound crazy but for ME and IMHO the Sub C is the greatest watch made. End of story. I honestly think it's watch perfection. I have literally been staring at it for a year. I know that's a strong opinion but it's just how I feel. Good luck

Congrats. Nice treatment from the AD. I'd keep the Omega unless you truly don't enjoy wearing it anymore.

It funny after getting my Datejust this summer I rarely wore the Seamaster Pro. Two totally different watches but I just sort of lost interest in the SM Pro. We'll see how the DJ and the SubC matches up.
