Sub LV secondary mkt

Any thoughts on why the bottom has fallen out of the LV market... Was it supply and demand or just not as popular any more?

I wasn't aware that the bottom had fallen out.

But seriously, Rolex should stop making them and move on. The anniversary is long past. Enough already... Larry.

I was at a store yesterday with one used at $6300 USD - and saw one go on eBay not too long ago for $4900 I believe.

IMHO, I've had my LV for a month now....and everywhere I go AD's and Certified preowned stores give me the same response......We don't have it, haven't seen it in a while, & don't know if/when we are getting another....Might it be that they are slowly phasing it out????? Even spoke to one of the AD managers just the other day who said they didnt even get one last year.....I don't know for sure, but around here it seems like they are still very hard to find.

I see them online for $4700-$4900 and no takers. The white aced steel Daytona seems plentiful too. But the green glass Milgauss is on Ebay has bidded up to $11,000 so far.

Just goes to show, buy what YOU want, not what everyone else wants.

I think it the color issue. Even though it is a special edition the color is hard to get over.
Cant wear it with a lot of bussiness stuff without looking out of place. Great for casual wear.
Though, it is a big hit on St Patrick's day.

For a while the LV was the new kid on the block that everybody had to have..

Today, with the GMT II, the Milgauss, and speculation on Basel, there are plenty of decisions to make or wait....

Eventually supply and demand will balance out..

I'm not sure the bottom has fallen out, but simply people are realizing what the watch is. Initially many thought it was a "limited edition" when in fact it's always been a regular production item.
Many hoped the LV would run a couple years where upon production would cease and those in existence would go through the roof. As we see, speculation can take it's toll as some are now moving to unload a reference they felt was more than it is.
Does than mean the LV will not find favor with collectors at some point?--Who knows, but if history is our teacher, the LV's future will not be tied to the number of examples (though low compared to the black), but to the desirability collectors place on the watch.
As always...Time will tell.

I've seen them go for as low as low-4's. Demand just isn't that high anymore.

Got mine in December from AD for list $5,525. Always wanted one but no ADs in my area ever had one. One day got lucky and one had just come in. I bought it because I like that it is different and had the maxi dial. My bet is the next generation of subs will all have the maxi. I didn't buy it as a speculative investment. If they stop production and it is worth more later great.

I would say there were a few "punters" who purchased for investment purposes. The world economies are "apparently" heading for recession, so people liquidate their assets for cash injection on losses. Supply and demand blah blah. As we all know there is a price for everything, you hold off the seller will drop his price. I still think you will be paying $4500-$5000US for good examples of these watches, sometimes less.

I love the watch, I didnt at first. It is fresh and can be worn in my opinion with a variety of clothing, formal or casual.

I agree with Tombstone, it is yesterdays hero.

I would recommend a buy to anyone, why follow the herd

You may kick yourself at the end of April

The LV has been on the market for 5 years now. And it has always been not everyone's cuppa. Either you like it, or you don't. When it was launched, rumour had it that it was a "limited edition" which it never was. Also, the other highly sought-after Rolex model that was already on the market at the launch of the LV in 2003 - the SS Daytona - was and is much more difficult to obtain than the LV. And it will always be like that. Hard-to-get Rolex models are the ones that (some) people want, and this will put other models in the shade as soon as the new's interest for the new models has died.

Supply has caught up with demand. They now sit in dealer's cases.

I still think you if you want to trade/sell it in ten years, you'll find out you've done very well to keep it...

Interesting timing for this thread. I was picking up earrings for my wife tonight for Valentines and after I was done, I said I wanted to see some Rolexes. They had 2 LV's in the case, both Z serials. I asked if they discounted for cash and she said yes. I was expecting to get 10% but they would only give 5%.

"Hard to get"...."but you have two"...."price increase"...

It is a very nice watch. I can see where you either would like it or you don't...I like it, especially the Maxi dial (even though the hour hand is not maxed out). I was on the fence when she said they can ship to an out of state address and save me the 8% sales tax, as I was in NY state and live in NJ...sold!

It should be here T or W, it's coming via USPS registered mail and must be signed for at every stop, plus a federal holiday on Monday so I'll be waiting

Well I suppose it's just like a house. If you're gonna ever sell your house, it's best if your decor is neutral in colors and appointments. That way you have the biggest potential buyer base.
Same with the Sub I guess. The black is the most 'neutral', and will be easier to sell.
But, the LV does have a little more 'square footage', so you can potentially get more for it, but it may take longer to find the buyer for it.
