There are actually two stages. The first stage is when you just carry the virus inside of you and the virus is not active. It's in some kind of hybernation

The second stage is when the virus gets activated for unknown reasons and then you start having the symptoms. What scientists can't understand is that some people show a delay in the activation of the virus. In most cases the virus activates within 6-7 years but there are people that got infected 12 years ago and still have the virus in hybernating mode inside of them.

Understandable but he was diagnosed in 1991.

Don't know I haven't heard anything on the news about him in a while.

He was campaigning for Clinton and looked pretty good...considering. If you have the money, then you have lots of Pharma options. Could explain his longevity.

My best friend is an infectious diseases MD. With the current drug cocktails, if you have the funds, you can live a fully normal life (albeit carrying HIV) for the foreseeable future. Problem is most people cannot afford to keep up the treatment, or feel so good, they go off it.
