Rolex "Precision"
Last week I acquired what is probably a 1960 or thereabouts Rolex "Precision" model dresswatch in very nice condition. It just runs significantly fast - about 10 minutes per day. Two questions - is a time adjust an easy thing to do oneself or what might that cost (in California) from a reputable watch repair place?
Thanks much. Tom |

Tom,
Welcome to TRF.. You can probably get that watch regulated for 50 bucks at any good watchmaker... You need some special tools to do it yourself.. If it has not ben completely serviced in a number of years, your best course is to get it completely cleaned, oiled and adjusted....A mechanical watch needs this just like any other fine piece of machinery.. A full clean, oil, and adjust service on a Rolex will run about 500 bucks.

At 10 minutes a day it sounds like your watch is magnetised. Should be an easy fix for any competent watchmaker. Not a DIY job. Good luck and congrats on the new [to you] Rolex. How about some pics. dP

Or, it might have been dropped and one part of the hairspring has overlapped another, commonly called a "tangled hairspring". Either of these is easily sorted out by a good watchmaker..

Welcome to TRF, Tom!
Congrats on the Oyster Precision! Unless you have the right tools to open the watch, a Microstella tool to do the regulation and a timing machine to test the precision, better not do it at home. It is an easy task for a watch maker to regulate your Rolex, and he/she should be able to do it for you while you wait at either no or a moderate cost. Please post a pic of your Oyster Precision!

Welcome to TRF, Tom. You picked the right place to ask your question, as you've seen! Good luck getting your watch running to spec, and I look forward to the pics.

Welcome, it cannot possibly be running 10 minutes fast a day, everything else is wrong, this is a Rolex man!
