Any love for the 16550?

I'm thinking of getting a Polar Exp II 40mm to go with my black dial 16570. Considering going with a 16550 to make it a bit more different. Good choice or stick with another 16570?

16550 has a more interesting bezel font I think

They're cool, no doubt about it.
Not only for the slightly chunkier bezel font, but also for the fact that you don't see too many of them. I had one for a while until the flip bug bit.

Cheers,
-GW

I second this. Really like the 16550 bezel font.

16550 for sure. lots of nice examples and still undervalued imho. find a box and papers example with correct dated bracelet and wear it. M

I'm loving them right now too. Love the bezel font asit really stands out. Apparently they came with red bezel enamel when they first came out but I've never seen one.

Dammit. I've never even heard of this and now I want one.

Allegedly.

This info comes from Dowling and since only around 3 examples are supposedly known to exist, I'm going to have to put this in the "White Dial 6542 File" of Rolex urban legends. I saw a photo of one years ago but it's such an easy thing to change, I can't get behind it. I have seen 16550s with serials overlapping the 1655 with black bezels numbers... And more than one. Leads me to believe the few that are out there (if at all) were repainted by their owners.

Am I right in thinking that the GMT hand cannot be independently set, though? This would be an issue for me.

I'm a big fan of the 16550

Not too many of them out there and while it's no "creamsicle" with a rail dial, it is affordable and durable and I love how the plots have turned a nice banana yellow. The GMT hand is easily to adjust. You move the hour hand (independent of the minute hand) the crown at the second detente.

Love the bezel font of 16550. Here is my creamy dial.
