rolex scallop shell band, pretty rare i have only seen one before, i am not sure they actually call it this officially, but this is how i have heard it described. As a model 1617 it should have a textured band of some sort likely odd like you have, i am sorry i am of little help i will look it up in my books when i get home and see what i can find out.
