Service time counted from purchased date or production?

Hello, so straight to my question. For example if i purchased a DateJust from an AD in 2014 and the serial number is D and sold as new with warranty card stamped at purchase (2014). Should i count the service time from 2005 or 2014? Thanks

Well assuming that a d serial is from 2005, I doubt a ad would have a datejust in their case for a decade. But a few years is possible. If bought as new I would start from when I purchased the watch. That's also when the warranty starts.

If it is not under waranty , service start only when you are facing some problem with your watch.

How many digits in the serial.
Rolex now use 8 digits with letters and numbers randomly mixed. Yours could be that staring with a D.
Up until 2010/11 they used 7 digits starting with a letter.
Count them.

You are falling into the "serial number trap"...

If your watch is truly a D serial; there is nothing that states absolutely that the watch is from 2005. It's a bunch if Internet guesses based on WIS observations over time.... D serials were first "seen" in 2005, nobody knows when they may have actually been manufactured but it is clear that every serial prefix was in the production line for 2 to 4 years or more...

It is always new when sold (they don't go bad like a loaf of bread) and any "counting" should always be started from the purchase date...

(ps: If your watch is gold or has 8 digits (random), you can throw out all those charts - they're far from accurate)

First no chart can give you a exact date of production only a approx date when the case or clasp was stamped.So service time starts from when ever you put watch on wrist and wear regularly. And D serials ran well into 2007 possible 2008 as many serials overlap a few years.
