Rolex 1675 GMT

Hi just have a question on a 1981 Rolex GMT 1675 black matt dial that I'm thinking about purchasing. Is it a deal breaker if the hands have been replaced? The dial is in great condition with nice patina but hands look newer. The crystal looks to have been replaced also may have been into Rolex for service asking price now is 4500

I would not touch it with those crown guards - without seeing the serial # and seeing that it is 18 years older than you think. Pointed crown guards disappeared 1963ish IIRC. If this is from mid 60s or later the crown guard profile is wrong.

The serial number is a 695XXX AND model is 1675 non quick set date? Yes after looking up serial looks like a 1961?

So its 1961-2. Looks like the case is in nice shape but nothing original about the watch. Would look better with a gilt dial and a fat font insert.

Here's the deal:

The watch is from around '61. Should have a gilt gloss dial, chapter ring, and possibly an exclamation point at 6 o'clock. The hands have been replaced and the 24 hour hand should be one of the small variety as well. Only YOU can know for sure if this watch is right for you, but is looks like you are probably making the right decision.

Yes at first sight looked to me only the hands were the Issue but the deeper we dig the worse it gets Im looking for a correct example thanks!!

It really isn't a consensus - unlike a poll - they are both incorrect. If someone told you they were correct, they would be incorrect too! The watch would be expensive to get back to original which is where the value is. If you want a daily wear GMT, and the price is right, then go for it. Good luck.

The watch in this thread and the GMT from the Watchout thread are different GMTs - different serial numbers but similar, six-digit serial numbers.

If you are confused about something else, I can't help you.

Haha, to be honest I'm constantly confused about lots of things in my daily life.

Back to business-Beaumont mentioned a few things the watch must have. The watch in the watch out link doesn't have them either. In short, neither of them has period correct hands or dials?

That is correct. But, again, if the price is reasonable, it could be a decent buy. If you want to put it back to original, then the cost of original parts need to be factored in to a negotiated price. Figure about $5,000 on up for the correct parts. (The original dials are pretty much unobtainable.)

I wonder if this 1675 was sent into Rolex for service maybe it came back looking like this I haven't had the case back taken off I'm thinking about going back and looking at it tomorrow. What movement should it have and I would like to look for service marks from Rolex?

16523H is the bracelet number for a two-tone, Jubilee 18k bracelet.

As someone who owns a 1675 that was serviced at Rolex, and all items were pretty much updated (my father's fault! :P), I can honestly say that even though mine isn't the prestigious "all original", I love the watch more than any other watch I own. Obviously it has sentimental value, but (and this may sound silly) but I LOVE the fact that it has the pointed crown guards. It sets it apart.

I'd be all over that GMT like a taco on Tuesday....I have no idea what that means.
