Watch winder?

Let's be honest, if I could wear my AP all day everyday I truly would. However, I am unable to wear it at work. On days I am not wearing it, should I keep the watch in a watch winder? Is that safe? I have the AP diver. Any info would be helpfuly, thanks.

I've heard mixed reviews on winders....keeping the movement active but causing wear over a long period of time by constant use


If you're not planning on keeping the watch as an heirloom then don't worry about the above dilemma, use a winder if you feel it's convenient so you don't have to keep setting the time every time you wear it, is personal preference

I never have and don't plan to. I don't know how much logic it makes, but in my head, I think of it like a sports car. I'd rather just drive it from time to time to get the motor running and open it up, other than just leaving it idle 24/7.

I keep my Jumbo on a winder, simply because the semi-quickset date can be a pain to set if it's way off (yes, I'm a stickler for having the correct date on my watch), but my Diver just sits in the watch box.

Honestly, unless we're talking about a perpetual calendar or a piece like the Jumbo that lacks a quickset date, I see winders as being somewhat superfluous. Yes, they're convenient, but a good one costs real money (that SwissKubik I posted goes for $1000), which I'd rather put towards a watch.

Always just wind it when I want to wear it. Always rotating my watches so may have three fully wound and on the go at any one time

I have mine on a winder. Half of the people will be for winders and the other half against them... no right or wrong here. Winders are really a "convenience" thing. If you need the convenience of just getting the watch without having to adjust it when you do wear it, then go ahead and use one. But if you don't mind adjust it every time you're going to use it and have the time, then the winder is not really necessary.

I try to put watches that are a pain to adjust the date or have screw-in crowns on my winders. I've heard that constantly screwing/unscrewing screw-in crowns can eventually damage the threads.

I bought a winder on impulse but hardly use it because it is so complicated to set. But I can see the convenience that it offers.

I like the convenience of a winder on my watches. It takes the hassle out of having to setting the day/date/time on a non-quick set watch that has stopped. It also keeps the wear and tear on the crowns & stems to a minimum.

I left my AP in a wolf winder and after a week, the mechanism was off - resulted in me sending it to AP.

I keep my RO on the same winder and it is fine....

Prefer to place them in a winder. I kinda dislike setting the 3120 movements. The minute hand has a tendency to jump when the crown is pushed in :(

Once you set the time just give the crown a tiny bit of movement anticlockwise then clockwise again so the minute hand does not move - when you push the crown in it won't jump.

i use cuz i cant wear mine to work and too lazy to set all of them everytime lol
