Rolex and office culture

I've recently switched financial service firms the first was fashion forward everyone working hard and enjoying their respective trinkets. My new firm is a bit more conservative. People wearing digital watches, basic fashion watches etc. Although I know people are being paid extremely well here, the culture seems to be one of not outwardly showing it. The dilemma is that as I'm trying to blend in over the last few months my watches are getting ZERO wrist time. I bought them to wear not sit on the winder. Thoughts?

who gives a shit what anyone else in the office thinks....you purchased fine timepieces that cost several thousands of dollars to enjoy for yourself....do exactly what they were meant for...WEAR 'EM!..I mean this in a totally nice and serious way...You will probably get a lot of different views on this topic some of which will probably favor the conservatism of your work place...myself on the other hand...could truly care less..they are for you.

One of the best things about running your own firm is being able to wear what you want.

Only you know the environment and how certain behavior and possessions may be perceived. The nice thing about working in Manhattan is that most people don't know what kind of car you, or the boss or the secretary drive. Other displays of success must be tempered by the culture of the organization.
An Explorer I or an Oyster Perpetual under a dress shirt can be discreet, but I'd save the rose gold Skydweller or the YMII for weekend wear.

I have the same issue at my workplace, only difference, most aren't well paid.
I just wear long sleeves and hide the watch under the shirt cuffs.

Youre going to get a ton of mixed feedback regarding this topic. It's been beaten to death.

Growing up in a low income family with friends and coworkers in the same situation, I know things like "Rolexes" rub some people the wrong way, right or wrong, it's a fact... and I'm very cognizant of that where ever I go.

With that being said, I do wear my Rolex daily to the office, but I keep it under my sleeve and avoid drawing attention to it. I enjoy it on my wrist throughout the day, and see no need for others to know it's there.

If the people you work with make decent livings, drive nice cars and live in nice homes/neighborhoods, I don't think there is much to be concerned with.

Have to agree a Rolex watch is bought to wear that's what its for, its just a watch much like ant other watch, meant to tell the time nothing more.Just cannot see why subjects like this are brought up on forum mostly every day subject closed and now beaten to death.

If not ? I doubt they care... It's only a watch..??

the only people that notice I wear a Rolex are Car Salesman, Strippers, and the occasional Attorney. You are putting way too much thought into this. What if you had say a 20 year old Datejust or GMT? Would that make it better if it was 'old' or 'new'?

Wear your watches and be happy. 98% of people are not going to notice or care.

It's funny, a woman can wear a two or three carat diamond in a baguette setting, what, $15k, 20k? And not a word.

But see some guy sporting a stainless steel basic Sub, and you hear "Ooooh, a Rolex, wow, look at you!"

Go figure.

I think you're quite a ways off on diamond prices :) Anything of decent color D-G with good clarity (vs1 or better) that is an "ideal" cut will be in the range of $28,000-40,000/carat (for round brilliants) according to the Rap. Report :)

Edited to add: at almost wholesale prices.

hhmmm, how can I put this......I don't give a crap what people think, I work hard for things I never had growing up. I earn it everyday working far away from my family, so I'm going to enjoy it. Anywhere and anytime, barring safety concerns.
I don't care what people wear, they shouldn't care about what I wear.

Live and let live.

Wearing a Rolex under a cuff won't attract much attention. Wear them as you wish.

Unless you wear the Leopard Daytona put your watch back on your wrist where it belongs.. Then begin counting the number of times that somebody notices - you probably won't have to use more than one hand for your entire career..

Are Rolex really that big if a deal in the corporate world? I worked in PE for a few years and always wore a$20k watch or a Sub and thought nothing of it. A basic Rolex costing between 7-10k doesn't seem that crazy to me or even noteworthy?

That depends on where you are in the world. I left Wall Street many years ago and now have a much more rewarding profession. But some of the guys I entrust my life to on a daily basis only make about $1000 month. Your world and their world is very far apart. Even my most humble steel watches are a luxury they will never be able to afford. It would be an absolute insult to them if I showed up wearing a $20k plus gold watch. I would never dream of doing that.
