What happens if someone steals/robs you for your Rolex?
Are you pretty much screwed? Only thing holding me back from buying one is potential theft..
I live in Manhattan (downtown) so no neighborhood is truly completely safe due to the fact that peolpe can easily roam from one place to the next. Then there is the subway... So do you guys insure your Rolex or only wear it for special occasions? I'd liketo wear mine every day to work. |

I would file a police report and contact my insurance company. Then I would start shopping for a new Rolex.
Sounds like a terrible place to live, I am sorry.

New York is supposed to be the safest city in the US because it has the strictest gun control and knife laws. If Law-abiding people aren't supposed to have licensed concealed guns in the city, then criminals shouldn't be allowed to have unlicensed guns too. Somebody should tell those armed muggers that its ILLEGAL to bring their weapons in New York city for the safety of the public according to the city code.
Anyway, I will give up my watch to any mugger on the street. No material object is worth any life unless of course if your life or the lives of your loveones is/are threatened with harm (ie injury, death or rape) during the armed robbery then don't be a sheep. |

I will probably tell him to make sure he services it every so often, rinse after exposure to saltwater and that TRF is a great community.

It depends on your zip code, but typically anywhere between 1-2.5% per year. So around $70-$175 a year.
I have used Jewelers Mutual for the last 18 years and been very happy.

That depends on a great many things, quotes are likely different for each person based on where they live, their credit score etc.
Call your insurance agent and ask.

Gotcha. I kept it separate to avoid premiums from going up should I God forbid have to make a claim.
But I hear the info gets collected by a database anyway. So who knows.

I pay 250ish... Oh and see them all the time on the subway. Also you may not realize it but women all around you have pocketbooks that cost thousands and so forth.

My last trip to NYC, I was on the same train car with a Plat DD, and YM. That was all I could see. I had on my Sub (no date).
I grew up in NYC, in the projects, and have been robbed only once. I have long since moved, however, as others have noted, Insurance is your friend. Think too much about getting robbed, and you'll get robbed. Wear and worry free. If I'm approached for a robbery and they want my watch. I take it off, hand it over with a smile and go about my day. Call the Police, call USAA, and I'll have another watch within a week or two. If that happens, I'd strap another one of mine on and complete an INCOMING thread on TRF with a little jig and At the end of the day, most people don't notice, or will think its a Marc Jacobs

Life is too short to worry about "what if...."
Buy what you like and enjoy it. If you're truly concerned, get it insured. |

I guess it can happen anywhere but NYC is relatively safe if you are aware of your surroundings.
