How do you choose between 1680 Red Full set and Hulk+ new BLNR
If all-in prices are the same?
Thanks for your thoughts!! S |

I would not make that trade. Unless you're certain that you're into vintage, you may find that it may not be for you.
I have a beautiful 5513 (I know it's not 1680 red) and I was all gung ho on vintage at one point, but my 5513 has not been getting any wristime. My other vintage pieces are gone BTW. Good luck! |

Depends on the purpose and what other watches you have.

If you plan to trade a Hulk and a BLNR for a 1680 red, you're nuts.
Not worth it imho, and still I love vintage….. But to each his own. |

Yeah, I'm kinda' with you on this. A Sub & GMTII for a 1680? If you're not getting back cash - like $4k - then it's a totally lopsided deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A Mark II or III with brown dial in excellent condition would be a much cooler watch IMO than the Hulk or BLNR. The Mark I was produced in such small numbers compared to all of the red 1680s, that it would be even more cool, IMO. Either of those is worth well more than a Hulk and BLNR put together. Plus, in ten years their value will increase much more than the Hulk and BLNR together over time if you treat them well, because so few were made compared to today's numbers. As the population increases, watch collectors increase. As watch collecting becomes more popular, watch collectors increase. As watch collectors increase, demand for rarer models increases due to laws of supply and demand of these 1680s that were made in relatively small numbers compared to the Hulk and BLNR. That's why I would go with the 1680 as long as it is the right 1680. At least a meters first model in excellent condition (Mark I, II, or III) even if it isn't a brown dial, IMO. Finally, I think the 1680 is such a cool looking watch and piece of history! Some people would say it marks the first change from Submariners as pure tool watches to submariners as everyday watches and jewelry. Seriously, who needs to know the day of the month underwater while diving? Cool stuff!!! That's my , which is probably about what it is worth... LOL! Ultimately, you have to love it enough to wear it and enjoy it no matter which piece you go with.

I would go for the red now, as a full set is tough to come by. If the other modern watches still sing to you, you can always save up and get them at a later date, they are a dime a dozen and will most likely be produced for a while! Best of luck with your decision

I'm usually voting for one watch over multiples, but the BLNR and the LV are just too nice of a pair to pass up, no matter the vintage pedigree of the red Sub. Very tough choice, though.

The Red sub is pretty cool, however if it was me, I'd take the Hulk and BLNR.

BTW, post pics of the red. I didn't even consider that it might not be in great condition. Assuming it is in great condition it really seems like a no brainer to me in terms of desirability for me.

I would take a 2003 y serial green bezel sub and BLNR over a 1680 full set, but not a run of the mill hulk and BLNR. I'd go vintage, the red sub is beautiful.

Would need to see condition of red. Could be a meters first chocolate dial, or could be a service dial red with beat to hell case..........

Red's value will increase and new will decrease. I guess it depends on how much you want to ride the current popularity vs. how much you want to lose money. But by all means own what you want.

Of course, this begs the question, what is the Mark of the red 1680 that the OP is considering?
