Best mechanical dive watch?

Although, I am not a diver (I might snorkel once a year at best), I am fascinated by mechanical dive watches. Being aware that this is a Rolex aficionado forum (and I have myself several Rolex Subs), I was nevertheless wondering which mechanical dive watch you think is best in regard to price (hence, not the Deepsea), ruggedness etc. (Rolex Sub, Omega, Doxa, Oris etc.).

Probably a $100 Seiko.

The Monster is closer to $200



Not sure what you are getting at, steel is steel. If it is sealed and keeps good time then it meets your definition.

If you want to discuss which piece of high quality jewelry is the most rugged, well then . . .

Submariner aside and reading into your criteria three I've found to be fantastic are; The pelagos



The Black Bay



The Ball Peak XV



With it's ceramic bezel and polished centerlinks the Ball is the most dressy of the three, but it (like all Ball Hydrocarbons) is tough as nails and uses tritium as opposed to luminova.

All three of these are plus 1 or better as timekeeping.

My grandmother bought me a $60 Seiko dive (I still have the reciept) watch in 1975 when a graduated high school. I swam, dove (up to 100 feet), took showers, rode motorcycles, raced motorcyles off road, cleaned parts in harsh solvents..pretty much everything and I still have it today..its an automatic. It still runs like a champ...I wouldn't take it in the water anymore but that watch is indestructable.

Rolex, omega, breitling, doxa. All make great dive watches. The best one is the one you like the most. Go try them on and you will find the best.

The watch is water resistant to 500m and the original sales price was very low considering those of brands like Rolex.

I have a Sub, love it, and dive with it, but I think the Fifty Fathoms might be the best in my book. A little large for my wrist, but a real beauty.

First, WR is over rated. You will never "scuba dive" over a thousand feet and come back to be able to tell the time. 1000'/300m is all you need. With this in mind...

Marathon. My personal favorite. 100' down on a wreck. Because I cant afford the new Deepsea right now. Honestly... I'm hard on my divers. I use them. Not sure if I'd risk losing a Rolex on a wreck dive. The Marathon is a perfect fit. If it falls off and goes down a cargo hold or crack in a reef, I won't lose too such sleep over it.

As was said though, nothing wrong with Seiko, Breitling, Omega, Luminox, Doxa, Helson, Ball or Resco. Pick what YOU want.

hard to go past a seiko , anything with a screw down crown will do the job well enough.
omega seamaster 120 is a lot of watch for humble money.

some of the liquid filled quartz look interesting , if you fancy something different

the seiko skx007 with pepsi bezel is what i would get, and did.

the entire skx line is legendary and traces its roots back to the 60's. it's held in high regard with wis', its got an in-house movement w/ date and has been reported to go without a service for well over 20yrs with daily wear - all for under $200. made in japan or singapore to boot. imo, a must for any wis to add to a collection at least once in a lifetime.

Not certain if it is the best but it's plenty good for my purposes. I love mine. As much of a dive watch as I'd want from Rolex. OTOH I also like my SMP300 Bond.
